Yes, Burke says a pioneer, an "explorer par excellence," because he says that the discoveries of the sixteenth century must take into account not only new geographical territories, but also the "vaster and unfamiliar horizons of divine Love" to which we look to her mission in thanksgiving for the wealth and the heritage the saint has left with us.
I guess this can best be called a Meditation Book. It is meant to enrich the reader/prayer with her words which always seem to inspire. It is broken down into 30 topics meaningful to anyone interested in the Spiritual Life. The Commentary on each subject is rich and challenging and should produce "food for thought," or rather "food for meditation" which Saint Teresa of Avila always hoped would spillover into Mental Prayer, which she called a loving conversation with the God we know loves us.
This is a book that can be appreciated as an introduction by those who are unfamiliar with the saint. It can also be a loving exercise with Saint Teresa for those who know her. It is also a way to come to know her thought through her letters.
