My husband was scared of it at first, but we bought a cut-proof glove, and I make use of the holder. The holder is kind of awkward to work with, but I'm as careful as I can be. When I called him over to watch me use it, he started to come around - he saw how quickly I was able to slice down 6 tomatoes and a couple of onions for a baked dish, and he admitted that it had some perks. He'll probably use it very carefully when he does, but I think he'll enjoy how much easier it really does make it.
It's dishwasher-safe, as long as it's on the top level. Again, I'm lazy, so I love that.
One thing that is annoying is the method to adjust the thickness of slices - it takes FOREVER to get the blade adjusted to whatever level you want. It's frustrating to work through the various levels of granularity between thicknesses. Eventually I give up and go, "Thick enough. Let's get slicing." De Buyer could stand to improve upon that.
Otherwise, I love it. It's a new staple in our kitchen.
I chose De Buyer because I have some of their other products, I've been to their factory store, and I know they make good stuff. Plus the positive reviews didn't hurt.
The slicer is nicely made, good quality plastic and rubber where it is needed to provide grip, the adjustment mechanism seems to be simple enough, a basic screw which raises and lowers the platform. I would have liked to have some indication of how thick or thin the slices are when adjusting, but it isn't a big deal, I just peer along the platform while adjusting the dial. I love how it doesn't have set positions, but rather is infinitely adjustable from paper thin to whatever the maximum thickness is.
The blade does leave serration marks on the sliced food, but to me that doesn't matter in the least. The whole thing is rather easy to clean, and you're supposed to be able to take the guard apart to properly clean its insides, but I haven't been able to figure out how yet. The manual says twist, but I've twisted pretty hard and nothing came off; I'm too scared to twist any harder in case I break it.
One small thing I've noticed is that the guard has a tendency to rub along the blade if not well aligned with the edges, though maybe that is more my fault than the slicer's...
It's very easy to change the thickness of the cut and the holder grips the item very well to the last slice.
and it worked fine. Easy to clean-- just put in dishwasher. Easy to adjust thickness. Takes some
practice to get even slices, but it does work.

Much less waste than any of the slicers that only have one diagonal blade.Read more
