Great product, but PLEASE use the safety!!

I love this product. I've had it for over a year and it works wonderfully. I ALWAYS use that safety piece, but back in February I was in a hurry, slicing onions and sliced the entire top of my finger and fingernail off. I was taken to the emergency room and they couldn't get the bleeding to stop so it had to be cauterized. OUCH! It took about 4 weeks to heal and I still have numbness.

I'm telling you this because I wouldn't wish this on anyone. I have used my slicer since, with great caution. It really is a good slicer.

Makes preparation easier

I've been in the market for a slicer recently. I'm lazy, and quite honestly, I get annoyed with my own ineptitude and my inability to make even slices.

My husband was scared of it at first, but we bought a cut-proof glove, and I make use of the holder. The holder is kind of awkward to work with, but I'm as careful as I can be. When I called him over to watch me use it, he started to come around - he saw how quickly I was able to slice down 6 tomatoes and a couple of onions for a baked dish, and he admitted that it had some perks. He'll probably use it very carefully when he does, but I think he'll enjoy how much easier it really does make it.

It's dishwasher-safe, as long as it's on the top level. Again, I'm lazy, so I love that.

One thing that is annoying is the method to adjust the thickness of slices - it takes FOREVER to get the blade adjusted to whatever level you want. It's frustrating to work through the various levels of granularity between thicknesses. Eventually I give up and go, "Thick enough. Let's get slicing." De Buyer could stand to improve upon that.

Otherwise, I love it. It's a new staple in our kitchen.

Lasted less than 1 year

Purchased last year...worked well for first 8 months or so then the adjustment knob broke and i can no longer adjust the thickness of slices...too much of a pain to return...will just have to try another brand.

Great product for the price!!!

I was looking for a quality mandolin, and unfortunately bought a real cheap one locally first.
Very little adjustment, and while it would function with firm items fairly well, it was worthless with soft vegetables and fruits.

I didn't want to spend a hundred dollars or more though, and a friend finally recommended one of these from another store.
Found it for a bit cheaper on Amazon, and ordered it.

This does everything it says perfectly.
The adjustment is VERY easy, and you can go from paper thin, to quite thick in a few seconds.
I have used it many times already, and have yet to find anything it won't cut properly. Works great on even softer tomatoes no matter how thin you have it set.

After you are done, simply raise the table up to the highest point, and it becomes very hard to cut yourself by accident. You can wash it by hand this way, or even better,....toss the whole thing in the top rack of your dishwasher.

Great product that I would highly recommend.
I would suggest a cutting glove if you are going to give this to an elderly person though. It is quite safe if you use the holder correctly, but it is also VERY sharp, and could really do some damage under the right circumstances.

Pros: This is an excellent slicer. Very easy to use. The infinite adjustment knob adjusts from paper thin to 5 CM maximum. So far I have sliced sweet potatoes, celery and onions. The silicone "feet" are great for slicing right into a hot pan. The handle is tilted which allows for easy handling. The food holder holds the food very well right to the last slice. And to top it off it is dishwasher safe. What more could you ask of a mandoline?

Easy to use

My husband had been debating over which v-slicer to get for about 5 years. Possibly longer. I finally bit the bullet and got us this one. I was hosting a party and like h... I was going to slice everything by hand. This slicer was perfect for tomatoes and other veggies. Cheese didn't go as well but I'll try again. I haven't sliced fruit yet but since it did so well on the tomatoes I'm confident this slicer will do the job.
It's very easy to change the thickness of the cut and the holder grips the item very well to the last slice.

Convenient way to make slices of just about any vegetable. I used it for potatoes, to make chips,
and it worked fine. Easy to clean-- just put in dishwasher. Easy to adjust thickness. Takes some
practice to get even slices, but it does work.
