What is inconvenient with the latest builds are things like:
1) Steam, everywhere, all the time. Have it under a cabinet? Get ready for mold. Seriously, its like a sauna in here.
2) Overflow overflow overflow!!! No matter what you do this coffee maker will dump at least a cup or 2 of coffee right on the counter surface for you. This is super handy if you are interested in things like staining your countertops to a beautiful coffee brown hue but really sucks if you just want coffee.
3) Once you overflow you get perma-coffee in the reservoir. Seriously, its almost impossible to get entirely out. I'm sure its creating yet more unseen mold down there.
The quality here has gone down dramatically and DeLonghi does nothing about it. Its unfortunate, the swing out arm is amazing, they just are executing it badly. Feels like they changed factories or production methods and are now stuck with a warehouse full of 50,000 defective coffeemakers that they must foist upon the public.
Shame on you DeLonghi
We love the design and will purchase another one after this wears out.
Bitter coffee is the result of the water being too hot and removing alkaloids from the coffee beans and with the aroma setting this is avoided completely.
As mentioned the newer model has a carafe with thinner and more fragile glass so care needs to be taken even when the carafe is cold.
Watch the attached video. See how much steam escapes from every possible hole and seam and condensates on both the machine and my cabinets right above it. I don't think it was this bad initially but it definitely got worse over time (about 8 months now) and now I have to place a kitchen cloth above it otherwise it will ruin my cabinet's finish.
The carafe also is a flawed design. It tends to drip or leak when full and you try to pour coffee or even use it to fill the water reservoir.
It's a shame because it looks nice and the coffee it makes has no issues. I would consider a revised model if the manufacturer addresses the issues.
The only downside is setting the clock and timer. You can only go forward, so it does take time to reset them after any power outage or for seasonal time changes. But I can easily live with that.
We love our DeLonghi coffeemaker. It's about to die on us after six faithful years and a lot of abuse, so I have ordered this new one. Six years is a very long time for a coffeemaker to keep chugging along, about three times longer than any other we've ever owned. The DeLonghi machines are simple, easy to clean, they make amazing coffee (especially with the Aroma setting) and they are reliable.
Do they leak? Yeah, they do. We put a nice rectangular metal tray under ours, and I clean it once a week. Is the clock difficult to read? Yeah, it is. And guess what? I turn a light on so I can read it. As long as I know the clock is working and will brew our coffee at 5:15am every day, I am happy. Does the metal basket start to split at the seams? Yeah, it began to do that about a year ago, and guess what? It doesn't matter. We're not getting grounds in our coffee.
I can forgive a couple of very minor product "cons" because this is a terrific no-frills machine that just makes wonderful coffee and doesn't just stop working after a year's use. Yeah, I'm aiming that at you, Cuisinart!
