It has 6 lights for the browning control. I use the default, which is 3 lights. The fourth one is a little too dark for my taste. When you put your slices of bread in, you have to push a button for them to go down. The audible beep that serves as an 8 second pre-done warning is very low. If you were across the room or talking to someone when it went off, it might be easily missed. When your toast is done, it slowly rises up and you have to take both slices out if you don't want the second slice to go back down while you're buttering the first. It really doesn't matter on that because all you have to do to get it back up is press the same button you pressed to start it. The toasting time for an 800 watt toaster is slow. With the 3 light setting, it takes 3 minutes to toast one or two slices and 4 lights takes 3 minutes and 40 seconds. The heating ribbon for the most part, does not glow red while toasting. This, I figure, will prolong the life of the heating ribbon but the trade off is slow cooking. The other "con" is that on the 3 light setting, the toast is little too light for me and the 4 light setting is a little too dark. Because of the cooking time on 4, the bread seems a little dry. The toast itself toasts evenly after the first few uses. Overall, I like the toaster and I'm going to keep it. I got it at Bed Bath and Beyond and ordered it from a local store. They waived shipping for me and had it sent to my house. They have a wonderful return policy and send a UPS return label in the box.
The warmer works like a champ, and it handles bagels without the usual "soft in the middle, dark brown on the outside" problem many toasters have. But it does take longer, so if perfection is your goal for toast, this is the one for you. If speed is what you need, you'll want to look elsewhere.

Shipping was excellent, but the toaster itself isn't any better then the cheap one we replaced it with. Read morePublished on March 31, 2013 by GlennA
My wife loves the look and feel of the unit.

I call it "Pyramid" because it is shaped like the host's desk on the new "Pyramid". It is the best and I love it and its sleek design. Read morePublished on February 20, 2013 by Linda J. Daniels
Toasts beautifully and quickly, and looks lovely on the counter. The warmer feature is very convenient and the slots are wide enough for bagels. No complaints.Published on February 1, 2013 by Cathleen M Interrante
This attractive toaster is advertised as having "extra-long slots." It doesn't.
The slots are 4.75 inches, the same as a standard slice of Wonder bread. Read more
The reason for a 4 star rather than a 5 star is that the toaster slots could be wider to accomodate thicker bread, waffles etc. Or at least have one side wider. Read morePublished on December 11, 2012 by Sandra L Olson
