Very good product, if used properly. People unknowingly get these with the wrong expectations. This is NOT a high output, forced air heater. It produces steady "radiant" heat. I will describe my use. This is where a heater like this excels. Its not going to be efficient to constantly turn it off and on all the time. Let it heat a room, then set the thermostat, and leave it.
I built a 12x16 work shed, I fully insulated it (R13 walls, R19 Ceiling). The front double-doors are not insulated and a tad airy. I used the Medium setting on #5 for 4-5 hours and the space was nicely warm. I then wanted to see how low I could go, and still maintain a level of warmth. I used the "low" setting, and scale on #3 (the point where I could hear the thermostat Click-off). Very happy that it will maintain a warm space at that low setting with outside temps in the 30's. Its my workshop, so I'm not looking to keep it 70. Its comfortable...Not super warm, and not cold at all. I'm sure if I jack up the settings, I could get it very toasty in there, but It would cost more to do so. At the setting of #3 on the lowest setting I"m very happy with the result.
as with any Heat source, Common sense also dictates that Its important to not let the heat collect at the ceiling. I put in a ceiling fan at the peak, which helps alot to circulate the heat around the area to keep it even. If you dont have one, use a small fan to move the air in the room.
Again, this is not the "I"ll plug it in and get immediate heat" type heater. Its not for that purpose, and not how it was designed or functions. It takes time to heat that oil, and in-turn, time to heat the area. Once the heater and space is warmed up, LEAVE IT! scale back the settings, listening for the Set point when the thermostat audibly Clicks off.
Quality product, good heat output and transfer. Highly recomended. I now have a comfortable workshop. Oh, I made sure to use a dedicated 20A outlet. You can use a 15A, but make sure not alot of other items are on that circuit.
