Like a few other reviewers - this kettle is now leaking from the on/off switch. Six months old - so within warranty - but it leaks. I'll attach photos - but this is now going from a 5 star review to 2 stars.
Our old kettle had a broken switch - so it's off to Amazon to look for something new.
We chose this kettle primarily because it was red - but also because it was good looking and nice and simple. There is one switch - ON/OFF - and one additional catch to open the lid.
We were impressed with how quiet it was during boiling - and it took around six minutes to boil a full kettle of cold tap water to a rolling boil.
- looks good
- great design
Unlike other kettles that spark on contact when you set them down on their powered tray, this kettle remains off, extending the life of the contacts. The round switch is easy to toggle and it lights when it's on and automatically turns off once the water has reached a full boil.
Unfortunately, it has one flaw that might cause many to throw it away after just 2-3 years of use. The contacts in the base are not coated with gold or other non-oxidizing metal. This morning, I awoke to find that it just wouldn't power on. After unplugging it, I removed the three rubber feet with my fingers and to my horror saw triangular screws! This is the only shape I'm not equipped to handle. Most flat and Philips head screw bits that kind of fit didn't work. Then I realized if the bit's width was exactly the right dimension I would be on my way to opening it up. Thankfully, an inexpensive $2.79 Kobalt Item #: 239400 / Model #: 60273 multi-bit screwdriver had a flat head that fit perfectly and in moments I had removed the three screws and gently pried off the top of the base with the same flat bit. I then gently pried/rocked the right-most contact out and used a #000 extra fine synthetic steel wool pad until the contact was shiny. When putting the contact back in, take note of how the contact on the left is positioned because that will visually tell you all you need to know to complete the assembly. Total procedure time was 5 minutes. I now have hot water again for likely the next two years until I have to do this all over again.
Definitely worth paying the extra dollars.
Update: Now had this kettle for 10 months and works and looks as good as new....must have over 2 thousand "boils" by now the way I use it for everything.
Update 2..now Jan 2015 and my kettle works as good as the day I bought it. The piece of plastic that covers the water line on the inside of the kettle came lose, but it is just cosmetic..doesn't serve a purpose as far as I can tell. My kettle has just a little scaling on the inside which is normal. No leaks as yet. I agree its a bit noisy but that's normal with kettles with a powerful heating element. The kettle has got a little pricey, but still worth the money. Love the range of colors.

fast heating and very clean look/design.
wish it was a bit bigger,
For the price of this kettle, I expected more than two years use from it. After about 12 months, the pin in the underside of the kettle that engages with the base started to bend. Read morePublished 2 months ago by DieselFumes
Da best. But compared to 220v range it takes more than a minute to boil. Still better than most. Pretty too.Published 3 months ago by Owl
I owned this kettle for 3.5 years and loved it - until now. I love the color (yellow), the design, and the speed in which it boiled water. Read morePublished 3 months ago by Christine
It's so dangerous. The cover pops up while the water is boiling. The kettle will not stop cooking even though they don't have water inside anymore. Read morePublished 4 months ago by Ernie Chicken
