This book was also bland like people who can't cook, seasoning. I try.. I did.. Oh, how I try to detect one.. Just one redeeming quality about this book.. Sigh.. Unfortunately, I've come up empty..
Every page, and chapter are being recited to us by the characters POV. There is no showing, it's 100% told by both characters so there is no feel to them. We’re told Demarco is a bad man, yet I’m still waiting to ascertain it. We’re told Nova is a plus size woman.. Um.. Size 16 does not mean a person is fat or large.
The principal characters have no growth whatsoever. I did not like Demarco, and I didn't like Nova either. Nova and Demarco lack chemistry and their relationship was forced upon us. What Mafia boss makes a deal to be with someone and had no intentions of holding to his word??
Nova was beyond pitiful, stupid and naive. She was easily manipulated by everyone and couldn’t afford a backbone not even from a thrift store. And to add insult to our intelligence the writer tries to mix in abuse, hardship, and the-one-I-can’t-be-without romance as a part of Nova’s characteristic traits. But the way it was presented just didn’t mesh well.
The plot is weak, stilted and rushed with the dialog between the characters implausibly cringe-worthy. And the way the book is structured reads like a generic synopsis or a scribble of a someone notes rather than a well-developed narrative.
I must stop my review here because, I have nothing and I mean ZERO good things to say about it.
I would certainly not recommend this book to anyone.
Storyline was moderately interesting, but the grammatical and structural errors were simply too glaring to ignore. I found myself mentally inserting the correct tense or word to complete the author's thought. Gah! I have no desire to read books that force me to don my former developmental editor hat. When I read, I want a mental escape, not mental work.
Please writers, I implore you, invest in quality, professional editing services. Trust me, it will make all the difference. ☝🏾
