Hurricane and Spy Killer seemed the most complete and awesome to me. The sound effects in Hurricane of the drenching rain coming down really sets a mood as well as the various voice actors. It felt most like what I had seen in movies as old time classic suspense like a Bogart Movie. Lots grim determinism and planning in a harsh scene to get through to the end.
Spy Killer is described this way on the publisher's page:
"American Sailor Kurt Reid is a hothead, scrappy and rough around the edges. Falsely accused of murder, Reid jumps ship in Shanghai—and lands in a web of intrigue, betrayal and murder. Drawn into a deadly spy game, he’ll have to learn the rules fast, because with players like sexy Russian agent Varinka Savischna, the game is as seductive as it is sinister." and earned the Publishers Weekly Listen Up Award.
It is gritty and hard edged and a full two hour performace.
The Carnival if Death starts out with whacky out of hand Carnival music that seems fitting and sets that story up for it's suprise conclusion.
Dead men Kill sort of reminded me of a campfire ghost story with a bit of police action in it. Instead of "Who Stole My Golden Arm?" which was some old ghost story i thought was funny and weird and spooky as a kid we get this Zombie mantra of, "I've come to kill you Gordon!"
The Slickers surprised me very pleasantly and was a good yarn with the small town Arizona Sheriff visiting New York to solve a crime with some old fashioned common sense without all that thar city sophistication.
This is a good set. Again Hurricane and Spy Killer were my top preferences as I like the longer ones I think.
Best sound effects and voice I have heard on Audio. Relevant to the time and era.
