Most pirates...are typically honorable and love to sail the ocean blue. In this tale, Bray-Weber has a delicious and dangerous pirate who is very troubled. Valeryn is strong, loyal, handsome and absolutely easy to fall for. The only thing that gets in the way is his past...but can anything really right the past wrongs that he has wrought onto his crew?
The crew and his beloved ship, the Rissa, are all that Valeryn has and he will stop at absolutely nothing to make sure that it stays that way. After a drunken brawl, Valeryn winds up with an ultimatum. Knowing of his honor, he is given an opportunity by the mayor to take a beautiful Spanish woman to Los Roques or...he and his crew can hang for all pirates are supposed to be arrested upon sight. Knowing that there are stipulations, Valeryn agrees to the bargain--he is to take another ship instead of his Rissa and another crew instead of his own. If he does not return with an untarnished Catalina Montoya within two months, his crew will hang and his ship will be taken for good. Little does Valeryn know that his hardest feat would be withstanding the beautiful Spanish woman along the way. With one destination, an entire crew and three to babysit...what could possibly go wrong or astonishingly right?
Bray-Weber has a superb story-line, one filled with danger and romance. This novel is creative and readers will really enjoy the playful banter between characters. The pace is fast, making it an easy and entertaining read. This is the fifth installment in the Romancing the Pirate series; however, it can be read as a standalone. If you are a reader of historical romance and regencies, this may be perfect for you.

Catalina was sent to live with her uncle after an illicit affair and now wants only to become a naturalist. She knows Valeryn’s life and that of his crew depends on him delivering her “untouched”, but she intends to seduce him all the same. And how anyone was to know she had been “touched” when she wasn’t a virgin was unclear. But somehow they’d just know. One has to wonder what her uncle was thinking in sending her off with a pirate not known for his morals.
The story is full of authentic pirate dialog and the ship scenes are exciting with a battle that will keep you turning pages. Of course, Valeryn does not resist the cute Catalina long (was anyone surprised?). Catalina seems a selfish, spoiled girl but she is certain she wants the pirate captain. Valeryn has his hands full with all his problems, yet he manages to find time for Catalina. They do seem made for each other.
There are some references to earlier stories and some characters come in at the end that were not a part of the main tale so I assume this is part of a series. But it can be read as a stand alone. Pirate fans will love the action.
*While part of a series this book can be read as a stand alone.*
