Editorial Reviews

Review

It's all good, suspenseful fun as Rebecca and Sam traipse the New Mexico desert, deciphering clues and trying to outwit Rebecca's half siblings. ... There's plenty of suspense, as well as abundant touristy tips and tastes of the Southwest.  (Publishers Weekly/BookLife)

From the Author

I love stories with plenty of action, a sweet romance, and a happy ending. I also enjoy outdoor activities such as hiking, especially in the desert Southwest, and learning about history and culture. Writing romantic suspense lets me combine all those loves, and share them with readers. The writers who most inspire my romantic suspense/romantic adventure stories are Mary Stewart and Barbara Michaels. In their books, I first fell in love with the genre.

Once again, I could not put down this book!! I loved it. It had so much packed into it:
Action
Mystery
Adventure
Treasure Hunting
Romance

Danger
Sibling Rivalry

I have said this before, but I normally read romance books and at times I like to read books with a bit of action and mystery in it. Once again this book definitely had me sitting on the edge of my seat. I loved that the background of these book and book #1 in this series are set in the Southwest. I loved it. It was nice to have this being different than what I normally read. I think the setting was described so beautifully that you can see in your own mind.

I have to say this, but I love the title: A Dead Man's Treasure. What a brilliant idea for a title and the whole plot of the book is behind it!

I love that Rebecca went to someone who she heard of for help. Rebecca is a strong woman. Rebecca is so sweet and opposite of her half siblings. I do like Tiffany, but I kept thinking could she be trusted? Don't get me started on Rick! What an creep!!

I love that there are clues that Rebecca and her half siblings have to follow. You find a clue to move on to the next clue. There are 5 clues all together. I loved how each clue was broken down to what they thought it meant. Her grandfather loved puzzles.

I will be reading more from Kris Bock!!

Okay, first of all, I love that the author makes this book interactive – if the reader wants it to be. You can go online and download a printable copy of the treasure map and try to decipher the clues yourself. I found that it be a fun addition to the book, plus you'll also get awesome Southwestern recipes.

The book itself is a great read. If you love mysteries, you're going to love trying to solve this one. I enjoyed the characters. At first, Rebecca seems to be a bit uptight, but that's understandable, given her situation.

The Dead Man's Treasure is fast-paced and a perfect read for the weekend. I highly recommend this one.

WOW WOW WOW!!!! I can't say enough how much I LOVED this book! It has mystery, adventure, danger, romance, and above it all family remains a huge theme.

The characters are amazingly well-developed and are people you know you would be comfortable around a campfire with. While this story focuses on Rebecca and her budding relationship with Sam, it brings in her new found family, both her blood related half-siblings and her new friends in Erin, Drew, and Camie that she meets along the way.

The story line is unique, fun, and makes for a fast-paced read. I never would have pegged the actual plot from the name of the book or the cover, but it was a great surprise to find out what this treasure hunt was all about.

The settings are described beautifully and I literally squee-ed (yes that high-pitched happy girly noise) reading the first bit about the history of the area that they have to search. The pictures were an awesome addition to the book, but I can say with the words that Kris used to describe the setting I saw exactly what she wanted me to see. Being a California girl and a history major I have always loved stories that focus on the history of the southwest United States so these books are right up my alley. I was literally like a kid in a candy store turning page after page reading this story.

What a wonderful tale and an unusual treasure hunt. This was a fast paced storyline with great characters and some fun puzzles. The author gives you a chance to participate before reading the book by allowing you to download the clues before hand. This was a great concept and one I have never seen before. I loved the sibling rivalry which added angst and depth to the plot. It was awesome to touch base with the characters from book 1 however, they did not overshadow Rebecca and Sam and seemed to be happy in the roles of supporting characters this time. ( I think Camie had some major adjustments to make but she pulled through in the end.) The grandad was really pretty cagy , the tasks he created were quite an adventure and a growing experience for the characters. This was a great fun read. If you like puzzles and adventure you should give this book a try.

This was an entertaining read that was hard to put down. The clues that had to be solved to find the treasure were very clever. I especially enjoyed the ones that took me to parts of New Mexico that I have visited. Now I want to go see the other places in the book. The main characters were well drawn; I'd like to know more about what made Mason the way he was. Looking forward to more books by Kris Bock.

This book was the perfect addition to the Southwest Treasure Hunters Series. Rebecca is an awesome heroine. She's strong enough to know her limits, and when to ask for help when she needs it. Sam is a hot hero, who is funny, and sort of wimpy (you will see why when you read this ;) ) but in a good way. Love that we got to catch up with Erin, Drew, and Camie. The treasure hunting aspects of it were great, and love the idea Kris used in this story to have the characters search for it. And what would a treasure hunt story be without deception and suspense? This story has a bit of everything.

I definitely recommend this story to anyone looking for a phenomenal read
