Bio:

Since my parents left their Texas/Louisiana homes to find adventure in California, that's where I was born. We eventually moved to Texas, but as a native Californian, I still qualify to use words like "vibe" and "aura" without ridicule.

I'm known for my sense of humor and my annoying habit of turning everything into a song. As a child, I dreamed that someday, I'd be in some random place, start singing and everyone around me would burst into song spontaneously. In my 40's, I found a soul mate who is a natural musician. He and my musically talented step-son make my dreams come true by jumping in and singing, humming or duh-duh-duhing along with anything from classical to rock. My daughter eggs us on, participates, or simply jumps in to correct mis-sung lyrics, depending on her mood.

My writing inspirations are my parents, who married outside their cultures and found great fun and humor in celebrating people's differences, my college roommates from Central America who made me aware of the "Latin-ness" in my heart, and my ESL students.

I've taught English to adult students from all over the world. Their stories have been an inspiration to me. I started teaching ESL just before my mother died. I cried constantly for a year and the only time I could forget her tragic death was when I was teaching my classes.

Then one night, after a lifetime of writing journalistic and marketing materials and teaching, I started writing a novel, then I wrote another and another.

Another adventure with Rika and Nick. I loved the quirky humor behind the stories but I find the constant body hating tedious. I mean why can’t she get over her ‘fat period’ and see herself as a normal woman? I finally skipped over most of her head trips about her weight and how Nick was so hot and couldn’t possibly like her let alone love her. P-u-l-l-e-a-s-e!! Move on and let the romance develop. I’m hoping that after surviving the tiger attack, the crazy stalker, the con-joined twins murder, and other issues that she and Nick will finally get together. I know, I know that the story thrives on the angst caused by Rika’s fear of rejection but give me a break. Maybe I’m the only one who found the constant head games Rika played tiresome. I love the themes and the humor so I’ll be back for Book 4.

OK. It’s not just the sexual tension. It’s the emotional tension. It goes on too long to keep this from being a great book. Its got the circus. Conjoined twins. Several almost death scenes. Two very different kinds of family but both loving in their own way. Is Paprika to emotionally damaged to REALLY commit to Nick?

In the third Rika and Nick mystery from Nina Cordoba, they end up investigating the unusual murder of 1/2 of a set of Siamese -excuse me - co-joined adult, Moldavian, contortionists from the traveling Cirque de Sorbet. There are lies, a 700 pound tiger (hell-hole kitty), a mean clown, greed, impure thoughts and maybe some deeds, hugely pregnant twin acrobats, a couple of Keystone cops, a meddling abuelita and two tias, a Dolly Parton wanna be stylist to the stars, nods to Columbo, misconceptions, misunderstandings, and a tiny white pooch with a wardrobe equal to the Kardashians. A definite must read. You’ll laugh and never figure out whodunit until it’s revealed.

Nina is back again with the next installment of her Martin and Owen mysteries with all kinds of fun, danger, drama, emotion, quirkiness and something everyone can relate to, self-doubt. Rika is always getting into trouble and is now trying to solve the murder of a conjoined twin. Her partner Nick is trying to keep her safe without stepping on her toes and express his feelings for her at the same time. I loved the story, the characters and all the funny conversations between her family and her suspects. I found myself laughing out loud many times. I was lucky enough to receive this before release date and I really enjoyed it and you will, too!

DEAD MEN DON'T FLIP is the third book in the Martin & Owen Mystery series. Though each will stand on its own, these should be read in the order of release.

There is no shortage of suspects in this fast-paced romance mystery. The clues are there, can you put them together as quickly as Rika and Nick? The story was fun and quick-paced. It grabbed me from page one and I could not put it down until I found out whodunit and why.

Speaking of Nick and Rika, their romance is heating up, but so slowly, quickly, slowly…. Ughhhhhh! Yes, I was frustrated, but that is part of the happy fun part of a long series. Let the angst continue as we all watch their relationship grow.

I have just finished this book, the third in this witty, well written series. I had to force myself to slow down and read a few chapters at a time, rather than devour it in one hit as I didn't want it to end! Love the relationship between Rika and Nick and the way you hear both sides of the story. Looking forward to the next installment already!! If you haven't read any of the other books by this author, then go check them out, they're all great!!
