My favorite moment was when after the big twist between Mendi and Ashby. The sequence of events that happened after was thrilling and I knew I wasn't going to sleep because I had to finish. It was such a raw moment that you know that it was going to shape the future for generations.
My favorite character was Ashby. I found his character to be flawed and interesting. He had moments of such goodness and moments of darkness. I found him to be developed and completely well rounded. The moment that I knew he was going to be my favorite character was when he was on a verge of a breakthrough. He was conflicted and excited. It was a touching moment that gave honesty and it was appreciated by me.
I'm going to recommend this series to anyone who will listen. It is one of those series that is going to stay with me for awhile. I'm going to read book 3 now so I have to go.
300+ years into the future after what was supposed to be a Cure-All becomes the End of Humanity..
Bennett Ashby, Brilliant Engineer and Nano-Technologist, is trying to create a cure for cancer using Nanobots while his best friend Christian Mendelsohn is on the same path but using DNA editing. This is a seemingly typical case of professional rivalries, each trying to find the "Cure" first, being friends from high school, going after the same girl, etc. It becomes so much more.
Bennett is in it for all the wrong reasons, prestige, glory, accolades, money, and Mendi is in it for the people, the human aspect, which is why those first lines resonate deeply.. They both eventually come up with their own versions of a cure for cancer and that is where it all changes, Bennett finds out a long time secret that turns his world upside down making things a bit more diffucult. While Mendi is saving lives, his creation seems to be destroying lives. Somehow his bots have become autonomous, hacked by an unknown entity and it has them eradicating everything...
The back and forth from present to past is exciting, you see the progression of what happened to make things as they are and then the presents realization that all they have known is not true leaving them with more questions as how to correct the issues at hand.
Stephanie is an amazing writer, she knows just how to grab your attention and leave you wanting more and yelling at your screen because you got caught up, lost time and have to know ...What Happens Next!!!
This Book 2 is a great lead into the 3rd book adding in enough backstory but also giving you more questions, making you crave more.
Definitely recommend this and all of her books.
