Editorial Reviews

Review

Fans of McDermott's previous books are well rewarded with a clever tapestry of familiar characters and authoritative story elements in this gritty, often unapologetic story about human trafficking and the morally bankrupt forces of the Russian mafia perpetuating it. Deadly Crossing is nearly impossible to put down, taking McDermott's work into new territory on "terra firm." However, devotees of his maritime flair and expertise, like myself, won't be disappointed. As always, McDermott imparts a fascinatingly solid dose of high seas action, drama and knowledge.
Steven Konkoly, author of the best-selling Black Flagged and Perseid Collapse series

The story line is fictional, but it has the ring of truth provided by good research. I've read and heard about the human trafficking problem from news sources, but it always seemed to be just a few minutes coverage before moving on to something else. We tend to say yes, it is a terrible thing, and then move on as well. But McDermott weaves the topic throughout the book and made me realize just how widespread and terrible it really is. Something I'll not soon forget! Dave D. - Amazon Reviewer

Enter a world few of us know. Human trafficking has become a very real tragedy worldwide, and McDermott tackles it with both knowledge and compassion, while keeping us glued to every page.
Kathy Truscott - Amazon Reviewer

The action is both believable and exciting. The characters are well developed, especially the villains. It is obvious that lots of research was done to get details accurate. While the subject of human trafficking is particularly disturbing, the plot twists and turns and the vulnerability of the victims humanized the characters and made it easy to root for the good guys. The events unfolded rapidly and it was hard to put the book down. Highly recommended.
Linda C. Jacobson - Amazon Reviewer

This is one of the best books I've ever read. The topic is distressing but is something that should be addressed more strongly. Let us hope human trafficking will someday be eradicated!

About the Author

I'm a merchant seaman by training. After graduation from the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy, I sailed for several years, and then spent over thirty years as a marine consultant.  I traveled widely, saw interesting things, and lived in several countries. I've had the good fortune (and sometime misfortune) of knowing more than a few interesting characters, and bits and pieces of them populate my novels.

I write stories of people in extraordinary situations. Not superheroes, just ordinary people who screw up, but who rise to life's challenges when the occasion demands.
