About the Author

Born with a special love for animals, the author, M. J. Vigna, is skilled in training and communication techniques that go far beyond most people’s ability and patience. Having a love for horses from an early age she committed herself to training, breeding, and care of them and other animals. Few people study herd behavior and training to the extent that the author has. Through her years of raising horses, Vigna gained a unique knowledge of herd mentality. She also incorporated training skills that were part of the Indian culture and almost became a lost art until recently with an explosion in “natural horsemanship” or more commonly known as a “horse whisperer”. Another of her hobbies is extreme survivalist camping. As a young and financially challenged mother of five, she was only able to offer camping and hunting as a source of entertainment and red meat for her children. They both turned into a passion for her. She became such an accomplished hunter that she was nicknamed “eagle eye” when she was able to spot and shoot more quickly than other people in her party. In addition, Vigna is a very accomplished commercial and private artist. Her creativity also includes silversmithing and leather craft. The author has combined all of her hands-on knowledge to introduce you to Deadly Deadly. More concerned with the art of literature than commercial success Vigna has been working on her writing projects for many years, relentless in perfecting them. Now in her mid 80s she is just now ready to bring her debut novel to market. She has dedicated herself to making this as accurate and exhilarating a read as possible.

I love westerns very much. This book has it all, love, death, action, sexual situations, an almost raping, gore and of course tons of mental candy to really pull you into the story. I love the way M.J. gives Deadly a soul. I'm an animal lover too so I find this very believable and in the realm of reality. I've enjoyed the book and can't wait to see it made into a film.... preferably without casting Johnny Depp as an Indian. I'd hate to see an awesome book like this get ruined like "The Lone Ranger". Regardless, A must read !

The heroic, but short-lived, cattle drive period lasted roughly from 1860 to 1890. But the handful of cattlemen who pushed into the untamed West did so with such an exhilarating, ferocious freedom of spirit that they deeply influenced the heart and mind of America, burning the romantic image of the cowboy into our country's consciousness.

With her debut novel, DEADLY DEADLY, M.J. Vigna has written a fresh and vivid tale of such a trail drive. A lusty and compelling page turner, it brings us again the glamour and power of the cowboy archetype.

Rather than moving westward, this cattle drive starts from the shores of the Pacific West and heads for Texas. There are other twists. The cattle are purebred Herefords and are guided and protected by a lethal, but loyal Texas Longhorn named Deadly and his longtime friend, the Trail Boss. Along for the drive is the herd's owner, a gorgeous woman. The motley drovers, including a virile half-breed, are few in number, ranging in age from very young to very old, from able to disabled. The conflicts they encounter are action-filled, the obstacles fierce and relentless. Other women help along the way. One, a strong, kind-hearted whore, joins the group in a push over a mountain in a blizzard. The author knows the territory. Her descriptions of the country as the herd crosses through desert and mountain landscapes are beautiful. Her depiction of animals is masterful and supports the theory that it is often better to trust in animal instinct than human behavior. I commend DEADLY DEADLY both to fans of the Western genre and to those who might be discovering it for the first time.

I'm a "read the newspapers cover to cover each morning" kind of guy, but don't read a lot of books. My daughter said, "check this one out; it will get your head out of the newspaper!" I'm so glad I took her advice. I was "grabbed" from the first page, and the newspaper didn't get read till I finished it! The story of the relationship between the calf and the young man was unique and captivating. The cast of characters was a great mix of what you would find on the frontier; each was totally believable. The dangers and problems on the cattle drive were real and kept me riveted. The story has it all: historical accuracy, nail biting dangers from both nature and man, and a truly believable love story. It is a "must read" for any western fan. And, of course, it's ending made you anxious for a sequel. I'd be first in line to see it when it is made into a movie.

This book is amazing. I totally enjoyed every page. I am hoping that Miss Vigna writes another book and tells all of us the true ending of this book. Does Grady end up with Ceci? Does Little Bear end up with Candy? Do they get the herd of cattle to Ceci's Ranch? Thanks for writing this book. And last what happens to Deadly. This book was really worth reading I give it 5 Stars.

I generally do NOT read westerns. I got my fill of that genre way early in my life - before I hit my teens. That being said, the reviews on this one convinced me to give it a try. I'm very glad I did! I'm not sure what I was expecting, but the characters and the story in this book won me over. Of course, my favorite character is Deadly. Perhaps because I had a pet calf many years ago, one that I carried around the farm until my dad put his foot down and told me to let the darn thing walk on his own. Something about the boys in the county being afraid to date a girl who could pick up a half-grown cow and tote it around. Silly, really. But this book brought back some good memories and gave me an excellent reading adventure at the same time. I'm very glad I took the chance on this one!
