One evening, after speaking to her all female self defense class, one of her students is killed in a hit and run accident .. although it seems to be no accident at all. Unfortunately, this throws her in contact with an unsavory character from her past .. one she has no fond memories of.
Meanwhile she is hired by senior citizen Mayville Toussaint to find a wooden box that was stolen from her. She is instructed to find the box and return it to her unopened within the next 7 days.
Dez does due diligence and finds the box .... however Ms. Toussaint is not who she says she it. So who is she and why is she playing games with Dez?
This was just an ok read for me. Not really all that suspenseful. Dez is a strong female antagonist which I normally enjoy, but this particular character just doesn't ring true to me. There is a series featuring Dez, but there's nothing here that makes me want to look any further.
