This is the premise of this book. Four people with paranormal skills solve cases such as murders, pedophiles, adulterous deranged husbands. The four have all kinds of unique skills and are even able to communicate with the dead and gain their help in solving crimes.
The book starts slow with overuse of descriptions, as a car starts shortly after turning on the ignition, but then speeds up. This beginning is, as is the rest of the book, filled with humor. The four have no clients until a strange woman appears with what seems to be but isn’t a run-of-the-mill divorce case. The four soon discover that they will be bank-rolled by a billionaire on the condition that they take on a fifth partner who is an ex-detective with no paranormal skills.
The reader immediately gathers from the author's autobiographical description above, that he writes serious matters in a unique and tumbling way. A headlong acrobatic style.
The Deaduction Agency is a fictional establisment where readers witness at first-hand, a group of specialist investigators, as they set up and run a new agency. They are dedicated to the resolution of criminal cases using paranormal assistance. This is a new and emerging brand of policing designed to protect the citizens of their country. This book the author dedicates to ll the professionals who assume responsibility for bringing to justice those who feel no remorse in abusing, torturing and ultimately killing innocent people.
He asks if we doubt that psychics are for real. He has made a thorough investigation of it before he put pen to paper. In the first part of the book he presents us with 8 real-life cases of psychics at work, so to help us judge them with fresh, untainted eyes.
Clients seeking help from such agency under discussion in the book, are normally in a state of emotional distress. To begin with, the partners use routine, formal principles of detection to root out the apparent, maybe true, causes of their mental agitation. Now for the interesting, second stage of the assistance that is provided by the agency he fictionally created.
As the author suggested earlier, the clue is in the spelling of the name. The agency partners perform their tasks with paranormal assistance; hence, they enlist an unworldly, additional resource for The Deaduction Agency! In effect, they communicate with those who have ‘passed on’ and now inhabit the spirit plane. Still confused? We suggest that you continue to read. Sooner or later you’ll get the picture.
Jake stood up in front of the four agency partners, Richard, Honey, Rose and introduced himself properly, for the sake of their client Nicky. “Over a period of three years, we accompanied the members of this agency on their paranormal investigations into unresolved murders. My name is Jake, my colleagues are Matt and Walter, and we are all employed as the camera and sound crew by a television studio. Our dual role was minders of the paranormal investigators, but with no success, failure caused by time constraints, a lack of police resources and universal skepticism.”
Jake wants that the Agency to take a fresh approach to crime. Joe Fraser the new team player, was reasonably fit for a man in his mid-fifties, and entered the Agency’s office block by striding up the stairs two at a time. He had his own, clear-cut role to perform. What distinguished The Deaduction Agency partners from bogus mediums, was a seemingly unfailing ability to pick up a so-called ‘psychic trail’; Joe and the sponsor were open-minded that a trail of that nature could exist; they realized that it might prove to be a viable investigative option on a par with profiling. It needed formal study and verification while Joe will act as the traditional managing detective. Joe made it clear that The Deaduction Agency has the official backing of the government, as a semi-autonomous, outsourced facility.
Psychics at work:
"Let’s see what I can glean.” Honey is at work and decided to slip into her respondent's sub-conscious. She needed to allow him to participate in current activities without disturbing his main concentration. Her focus had to be on the background activities of his brain. She explained: “we are all capable of thinking at multiple levels. The foremost level is akin to sitting in a public place and studying an item of major interest; the secondary level is being aware of what is going around us. It can be surprising what we pick-up indirectly, with our ears and eyes... In a correctly functioning brain, we also possess accumulating memories we can hopefully retrieve at will. I intend accessing Bob’s mental library by planting questions to trigger replies.”
Richard, who was studying a new-style restraining device with fascination:
"Richard jerked out of his reverie, and complied as demanded. It was a wonder to behold, as the golden cord slithered like a snake around the wrist that Hugh was holding and then wrapped itself around the other that Hugh pulled roughly back, to join them in a single loop. The two flat-ends seemed to fuse together invisibly as they met, to the fascination of Richard and Honey. When Richard positioned the ‘cuff-cord’, he made contact with Jack’s bared wrist and involuntarily shivered. He had read his mind, and experienced the insensitive, mental brutality that oozed from him."
Very innovative thinking, by an author who is not afraid to extend his thoughts and the boundaries of the establishment. He offers 8 cases in the first part of the book Real names and locations are rarely, if any mentioned, owing to the contentious nature of the truth contained therein.
He focusses on some innovative investigative procesures for readers to be entertained . We concentrate on case one: The Wicked, Deranged, Infidel Husband for the review :
• The two psychics picked up the photos they had used previously as psychometric tools, and began to re-establish the memory trails. Honey exercising her remote-access to her respondents thoughts, before reciting them aloud. Moving to Nicky’s photo, Honey sensed other influential presences warning her against Jack’s( her husband's) intentions.
• The observation room procedures: Forensic evidence of Jack's criminal acts is given. Jack’s DNA everywhere. Joe summed up: The residual problem is what to do about Jack? He is a walking time bomb. It has been professionally diagnosed having serious psychopathic and sociopathic personality disorders.
• We accompany the author on an innovative prison clearing process. The team
visits one of the biggest, toughest penitentiaries in the Unites States. Their
mission was to interview the most dangerous of inmates: the killers waiting on
Death Row, and decide if they were guilty or not of the crimes for which they
were locked up for. If found guilty, they would be subjected to a novel form of
remediable treatment. The psychics use their telepathic powers and ability to
communicate with the spirit world to confirm or deny the original sentences
passed on the convicts.
• If found not guilty, each prisoner would go through a process of integration back
into society. If found guilty, Brains would use his ‘Spectractor’ to find and remove
the evil spirit resident in each of the condemned men, thus rendering him
harmless enough to be released back into society. Thereafter he would perform
menial tasks on behalf of local communities. Literally, he would be brainless.
Alternatively, unless an objection was lodged, he could be drafted into the
military as a ‘Universal Soldier’ and undertake suicidal combat missions on
behalf of his country.
To have bad memories erased, and to be enrolled in the US army as a ‘Universal Soldier’ would be like the birth of a new spirit in an adult. Perhaps the person would not become the ‘Zomboid’ they expected to see, but a basic human untainted by a personality. Whatever spirit is left in him is representative of what was expected. The body will function at the basic level, controlling his basic bodily functions and movements to perform menial tasks. A true spirit will no longer exists. Now for an outrageous command in Tumbler's humorous style:
“Take him away to the medical unit, for castration."
A new dimension of thinking which is difficult to imagine by any ordinary man !
• The Spectractor as inspection device, can show an aura entirely normal,
containing no trace of bad deeds having been performed. Rose declares, “You’re
as clean as a whistle!” The the black aura was erased. At that rate, the team will
have cleared Death Row of inmates, and will be well on their way to clearing the
prison of killers in less than two days.
In part 2 of the part about convicted killers, we are introduced to:
• Introducing the Atonement Center
The team meets an ex-guard? He was re-deployed to ensure that the ex-prisoners receive on-the-job training, for their new roles in life. It’s part of the ‘Atonement Program’. A few ex-prison guards dressed as Training Supervisors, walked into a room to supervise activities. Honey exclaimed. “We’re slap in the middle of the biggest upheaval of the prison service in its history!"
This is indeed a new era, ushering in changes that no one would have dreamt of. "It won’t be much longer before wheels become obsolete and cars float along, perhaps even fly as well!" The author sending the reader to a new dimension of thinking.
What is the end game? The Atonement Center could be seen as a care home. For instance Hospices will close and those who go to them, in their final days, will go there instead. “The hospice staff will transfer to this place to supervise their terminally ill patients, and help oversee the trainee supervisors; these are the ex-guards who’ve joined us from the penitentiary. "
The Agency's team's role is to monitor the ex-cons who they processed and are now of limited intelligence and devoid of personalities or ‘zomboids’. “The longer-term objective is to provide the so-called ‘zomboids’ with non-criminal personalities and higher IQs."
Some more innovation? Who is Brains?
Brains explained to the team: “.. you only have to supervise the streaming of inmates, for access to different types of correctional facilities. For example, you can enroll specialists to help identify if persistent, bad behavior has a root cause in the brain, or if it is based on the chemicals circulating in the body.”
This too, opens up whole new disciplines for after-care! Honey mused, “He seems to anticipate our every move. I wonder who he is?” A voice sounded in her head, “You’ll find out soon enough!” Rose looked startled, and said, “I heard that too!” Are they speaking about Brains?
So many new approaches enabling them to process the inmates. The psychics enter into a new world of mercy and manipulation of fate. It was a good sign for the mediums, who were normally ostracized by society, since they were now regarded as angels of mercy. Everyone in the penitentiary could see that harsh, mind-numbing punishment was being substituted with behavioral correction.
What else was coming?
Assuming they finish their current mission early, next eight more mediums, were to be added to continue their program of spearheading the reforms of the prison service, nationwide. Something new? “Implants to regularize emotions are beginning to improve behavior, by reducing the aggression and hatred that some types of personalities feel more than others. This type of approach has has been conducted for a long time and is altering the components of our DNA for the better, over the longer term.
I suspect Joe Fraser and his team has yet to explore more aspects in their field. This is almost like an alien story taking place in real life here on earth. Enjoy this entertaining book
