Some questions are best left unanswered...

"Just tell me what you plan to do with that shovel, Grace. You know I'll find out eventually."
     "This is harassment."
"This is me making sure you're not burying any dead bodies. We of Sugar Falls' finest frown on that sort of thing."
Her face grew pale before two high spots of color appeared on her cheeks.
He frowned. "You're not burying a dead body, are you?"
     "Define 'dead body.'"

Deal Me In is a hilarious story about small-town life and second chances. The hero, Jeff, and heroine, Grace, were high-school sweethearts who had a painful break up ten years ago. Without even really saying good-bye, Jeff left their hometown to join the Army.

Now Jeff is back. To support his sister's political career, he has put his dream career of Search-and-Recue on hold to take a job with the local sheriff's department. Grace is all grown up--the owner of a specialty gift shop on Main Street. Jeff and Grace work very hard to stay out of each other's way and ignore the sizzling attraction; the natural, irresistible banter; and (really) the unresolved love that still burns between them.

As the story opens, they find themselves on a civic committee to plan an upcoming town festival. Jeff represents law enforcement and she represents Main Street. Serious heat and near-misses ensue. The proximity and frequent clashes about the festival make it very hard to fight their attraction. And when they can't (fight this feelin' anymore), they are forced to do the hard work of revisiting the past and squaring it with the present.

Cheri Allan has a gift for fast, clever dialogue, and she populates this little town (Sugar Falls, New Hampshire) with characters that are both true-to-life and funny. The planning and culmination of the town festival--including a llama pen, a bra-burning sisterhood, and a aging-rocker band--made me laugh out loud. But underlying all of that, is a tenderness and compassion that really resonated with me as a woman.

This story is good for anyone who enjoys second chances, female friendships, the small-town spirit, hot policemen, and llamas. Oh, and really strong, smart writing! An easy five stars!

The final book in this series and again I see the heroine as the one with all the problems and the hero can do no wrong. When the big secret is finally revealed I was ok, here it comes the big apology he not only slept with her cousin but because he didn't stop and listen to her they lost so much time. Well I was very wrong. Great plot I just think the author needs to give her women a break and even things out, after all he was the one who left the 17 year old alone and pregnant, he listened to his army buddies when they told him to move away from her without letting her explain.

Deal Me In is Cheri Allan's best book yet! Grace and Jeff are so believable that you'll swear they are real people. Grace is an earthy-crunchy New Age shopkeeper who believes in angels and destiny, yet has somehow earned the nickname "Ice Princess" from the men she dates. Jim is a local hero and veteran who has passed up his dream job as a park ranger in order to work as a local police officer and support his sister's political ambitions. Grace and Jeff dated briefly years ago when they were teenagers, and when fate seems to throw them together in more and more situations, things get awkward, uncomfortable, and sometimes even hostile. Why is it so difficult for them to let go of their history? The answer is poignant, and when you find out you'll wonder how they will ever overcome their obstacles. You'll be pulling for both of them as their journey unfolds. But this not just a tear-jerker; there are plenty of hilarious moments as well, including a scared skunk, runaway llamas, a date that ends in the emergency room, and a women's empowerment meeting that goes a little off the rails! I laughed, I cried, I had a really great time reading this book!

Loved, loved, loved this story. This is the story of Grace and Jeff, childhood sweethearts who have come face-to-face over a decade later in their hometown of Sugar Falls. They both hurt each other deeply when they were teenagers and when they find that they are more attracted to each other than ever, they struggle to overcome the past to give each other another chance at a future together. The characters are well-developed and you feel the struggle, pain, joy and humor as the story comes together. I found myself staying up way too late so that I could finish this one as I didn’t want wait for the end.

Grace and Jeff story is told of the up and downs. After 13 years they found there way back to each other. It wasn't easy but the love they shared all came back. A small town that all people cared for one another and helped each other's. Couldn't put the book down.

So the first book in this series sucked. I almost didn't finish reading it. This book whoever, was awesome! The plot is great, and although I wanted to strangle the author with how vague the main couples fall out was, all was explained by 80% of the book! Both main characters were like able, and there was an intense roller coaster of emotion throughout, but thankfully a HEA at the end! Haven't read any of the others and I don't think I will. This authors writing, is fair, but not my cup of tea. Too much description of , and lack of depth in characters (these characters being the exception, although could have been much better!)

This is a second chance romance tale that involves plenty of past hurts, a handful of present embarrassments and lots of friends and family to keep things moving along. I really enjoyed it. The overall feel is warm and heartfelt, while the story itself is enjoyable. This is about more than just the romance, though, and things between Grace and Jeff are quite slow going at times. But if you’re looking for a small town romance that includes an interesting array of characters, then give this a go.

I liked Grace, with her new age shop and her healing circle of friends. It doesn’t filter into every aspect of her life, but I liked the way her differences enhanced her personality – especially when she used it to hide from certain inner truths. She’s a complicated woman who suffered losses at a young age and is rarely truly honest with herself. She is also terribly accident prone and, as funny as some of her mishaps were, I did feel for her when it meant Jeff kept coming to her rescue.

As for Jeff, he’s a less interesting personality, but he’s also a good guy trying to do the right thing for his sister and who has never got over Grace. The romance between them is very wary, with neither wanting to risk their hearts again, yet unable to help themselves. I couldn’t help wanting them to sort out their problems, but appreciated the lack of instant fixes. The tale somehow manages to be emotionally compelling without ever getting too heavy and I found myself reading much later into the night than intended in order to finish it.

So, if you’re looking for an enjoyable romance that balances humor with the hurt, then give this a go. Especially if you like small town tales, second chances and scenes to make you smile.
