I found the voice that the author chose to speak in very difficult. The grammar was poor, and the sense of tense within each scene fluctuated from sentence to sentence. Not one to allow voice to keep me from a good story, however, I plowed on through.
And found a very good story line. Mr. Killer is born when he is only five years old at the hands of a school bully. He is formed throughout his life in institutions and foster care. He is abandoned by his parents, his father through a car accident, and his mother when she moved out of state.
The story follows each of the characters through their own eyes, so we are able to see how the detective seeks information on the killer. We see a young victim and his life long obsession with getting revenge on the man who killed his mother. And to get into the mind of Mr. Killer as he plans each kidnapping, each murder, and every contact with the police.
The twists at the end of the story make the whole thing worthwhile.
