Arielle DeLisle is a narrator, voice actor, and commercial producer based in Phoenix, Arizona. Dearest Clementine......I took a chance on you despite being put off by your cover (life imitates art in that I am begging the author to PLEASE change the cover as I personally think the current one cheapens the look), and boy was I hit hard by this clever, witty, sweet but gritty novel. Seriously, I read TONS of Kindle books and am rarely so impressed that I feel the need to leave a review. The characterization of Clementine and Gavin were top notch. The little nuances that "show" not "tell" the connection between the two were just spot on (forehead kissing, tucking hair behind ears, smoothing hair). The progression of Clementine from closed off and distrustful to accepting affection and possibilities is believable. Gavin is my perfect type of hero - loving, tender, understanding, protective, persistent, no cheating.

There is a lot of angst coming from different directions. To be honest, I thought the Darin angst wasn't needed and just put the angst level over the top like most NA novels currently. But, once I hit about the halfway mark, the author revealed the necessity for that angle which I was totally on board.

The humor was very clever! It reminded me of a much toned down version of Tara Sivec's humor to a certain extent. The dialogue was smooth and natural. Winking and smirking were at a minimum (really with all the smirking and winking going on in NA books the characters have got to look like they have facial tics....try it in front of a mirror....totally unappealing). Cussing was there, but it was natural and not forced 5 times in one sentence for shock value. The sex was steamy, but again natural and minimal which fit the angst involved.

I am REALLY looking forward to the coming books in this series.

My FAVORITE NA book of the year, hands down.

Gavin and Clem were just...amazing. Gavin was my favorite kind of book boy. If you know the kind of guys I write, then you know what I'm talking about. I LOVED him. I've already re-read the ending. I hated when it ended because I wanted it to go on and that rarely happens for me anymore.

Yes, there was drama, which I hate, especially with exes, but it was all justifiable. There was a few times when I was almost disappointed because cheating is unforgivable, but Miss Lex Martin pulled through, thankfully.

it never dragged, it flowed, the supporting cast was awesome and funny. I'm already working my way through book two.

6 out of 5, I'll be putting this on my signed shelf pronto, stars from me!

Dearest Clementine started off with a bang for me. I absolutely loved Gavin and I really liked Clementine for the most part. She is a tough cookie with rich girl problems but I enjoyed her “take no bull” personality. Gavin… oh Gavin… another perfect book boyfriend.

Dearest Clementine tells the story of Clementine; a college senior who was cheated on by her high school sweetheart, been stalked by her professor freshman year, and treated horribly by her parents. Clementine has trust issues to say the least and does not date or even care to look at a man. She focuses on school and writing her indie books. She closes herself to everyone and anyone.

Clementine meets sexy dorm room R.A. Gavin. He is described as a Henry Cavill lookalike if that tells you anything. Yum! He is just an all around good guy and those are the guys I love. He simply becomes friends with Clementine wanting to become more with her but knows slow is good. They have an adorable friendship/flirtation thing going on. This part of the book was very enjoyable and I was ready to give the stars 4.5 stars… than the end came and it all just went down for me. I hate to say it but the book lost me. I was only finishing it to see how it ends since I was invested 75% of the way already.

Clementine past comes back into play. From her ex boyfriend, the professor that was stalking her and the indie book that is basically a biography of her life plays a part. All this just happens at once and it is just way too much in such a short amount of the book left. It was all wrapped up so quickly and easily. I am afraid to say I just did not like the ending. Gavin is amazing of course but with so much going on I wanted more Gavin and Clementine’s story.

Blown away. I have read countless books, I only review the ones I think are really great or really bad. This was bar none, one of the best books I've read all year long.

The characters were easy to connect and relate to, their interactions were realistic, their relationships were well developed and their struggles were completely true to the age they're supposed to be. It's hard to create drama in a book that translates well on paper while not appearing too over the top to suck the reader in. Lex Martin does this well and with practiced ease.

Which is remarkable since this is her debut novel. AMAZING and worth every penny you may pay for it. So good in fact that I immediately purchased the second book in this series, (and no, this is not a cliffhanger book thank God) and loved that one even more.

Ms. Martin, be proud of the characters you have created, the world in which you have drawn and the emotions you have evoked.
Readers-go for it, you will not be disappointed.
