We meet Billie out jogging early one morning when she is almost decapitated by drone helicopter. She tries to chase it down but arrives in time to only see a woman place it her SUV and quickly drive off. The next day Billie rides her bike to the same spot to try and track the drone operator down. When she is run off the road and shot at Billie realizes there is more to the situation than she originally thought. Here the mystery takes off and the action never lets up. I don't want to say more because I don't want to ruin this raucous adventure for other readers.
The character development in this book is done unbelievably well. This is the 7th in the series and Don Weston gives you a detailed introduction to all the series characters rather than expecting the reader to know who they are from previous books. This is truely a stand alone novel in every sense. I fell in love with Billie's personality, intelligence, tenacity and toughness. She is such a three demensial figure who embraces and celebrates her flaws which are also her strengths. Her assistant and best friend Angel is as eccentric as she is funny. Angel and her trouble magnet boyfriend Chris keep the laughs coming. Billie seems to always be bailing the two out of trouble while trying to track down a murderer. Add in a cast of characters that includes three brothers who are cops, an ex-boyfriend who use to be her partner when she was a police officer, a new love interest who is set up as the patsy for the crime, the mayor, police chief, FBI agents, Homeland Security and a bunch of others and you have the makings of something special. Two reprehensible villians complete the cast.
This storyline was great and had an easy flow. It was an easy read and easy to follow. Although political parties are mentioned the author did a wonderful job of not inserting politics into the story. That's really refreshing today when everyone seems to be trying to whack you over the head with their political opinions and beliefs. I read the book in two 4 hour sittings because the story draws you in and leads you along to the end. It's become cliche but I have to say I couldn't put the book down.
I enthusiastically recommend this book. A series lives and dies by it's main character and Billie is one everyone will be able to relate to and like. It's characters like Billie Bly that make me consistently choose the mystery/thriller/crime genre as my favorite to read and get lost in for a time. Her posse adds depth, hilarity and complications to this wonderful novel.
Skulduggery is most definitely afoot and Billie's in the thick of things as she tries to avoid further attempts on her life, free Brett from jail, clear his name, find the assassin and the person behind the killings, all before the Senator comes to give a major rallying speech locally, that could see him become the main target among the thousands of those present!
Amazingly well-rounded and developed characters, plus believable and scary 'what if...?' scenarios make this another 5-star winner for the talented author Don Weston. I can definitely recommend it to fans of feisty female MCs, who have strength yet gentleness when necessary, common-sense and intuition, and genuine feelings and emotions. The comedy diversion of Billie's misguided and somewhat incompetent would-be PI assistants, Angel and Chris, adds to the general mayhem and lightens the tense and dangerous main plot without detracting from the drama and action, all stages of which are extremely well-written.
A delight to the intelligent PI political mystery murder reader, I suggest you hotfoot it to the bookstore and grab your copy today - they're sure to go fast!
The battle between Billie and her nemesis Ping Lau made for a great read. Add to that her quirky assistant Angel and Angel's trouble making boyfriend Chris. Billie had good relationships with her brothers who are all in law enforcement and many officials in the local town. Billie's knack at solving a mystery the FBI and other government agencies seem unable to solve, made for a good story.
The details written into the story kept me wanting to read the next page and chapter. I will certainly look for other book written by Don Weston, especially if they are about Billie Bly.
If you want a good thrilling crime story with great characters, story line and turns.....read Death From Above. You won't regret it.
Intriguing, somewhat frightening storyline with descriptive writing that draws the reader into each scene. Flexible procedures, actions and reactions. Believable characters with distinct personalities and great banter. Thought-provoking dialogue.
No desire to re-read this story. I am interested in other works by this author.

But having said all that, there is a lot to like, the characters are strong and well written and the location descriptions are very evocative and so I thoroughly enjoyed reading the book and will definitely read more by this author.
All in all, an excellent novel from a writer who I will definitely be following in the future. Wholeheartedly recommended.
I had not been over-wrapped in the character of Billie Bly P.I. in the first book of the series, but because I was interested in both the content of the story as set out in the blurb and curious of how the character would have developed as the series grew, I thought it would be worth looking at. I found success in both areas.
[NB. I had not read any of the novellas in between because I find short stories don't allow me to engross myself in the character or plot.]
