This is Susan Schreyer's debut mystery, and she can't write another one fast enough to suit me. The pace is fast and engaging, the characters believable. --Booksie's Blog
The story will keep you guessing from the beginning to the end! It's a total page-turner. --Conversations with Self
[Death by A Dark Horse is] fast-paced and entertaining, and most importantly for a murder mystery, the resolution isn't predictable: the identity of the killer was certainly a 'dark horse' that took me by surprise. --Quills and Zebras
Death By a Dark Horse ... has a few of the things I just happen to adore: horses, mystery, intrigue, suspense and a little bit of danger, with a dash of romance and a pinch of the paranormal. --The Scribe's Desk
About the Author
Susan Schreyer lives in Washington with her husband, two teenage children, a couple of playful kittens, and the ghosts of an untrustworthy rabbit and a demanding old cat. Her horse lives within easy driving distance. Occasionally, she makes a diligent effort at updating her blogs "Writing Horses" and "Things I Learned From My Horse," and writes articles for worthy publications. Mostly, she works on stories about people in the next town being murdered. As a diversion from the plotting of nefarious deeds Susan trains horses and teaches people how to ride them, and when the weather gets to her she works in a veterinarians' office. She serves on the steering committee of the Guppies Chapter of Sisters in Crime and is co-president of the Puget Sound Chapter of SinC. When she has a minute she cleans her house and does laundry.

There's a chance you'll recognize people you know in the characters in this story -- Thea's loving aunt and uncle, her unpredictibe sister, the boyfriend she wants to break up with, the man she's attacted to, her accounting business clients. There are moments when nothing goes well for Thea, including her love life. This makes us root for her all the more.
If you love mysteries that don't susbtitute gory and horrid details for story, and ones where clues and characters are most important, you'll certainly enjoy Death By a Dark Horse. For those who love horses, the setting is a definite bonus.
I look forward to spending more time with the characters who have already reached my heart.
and she kept me guessing until the very end. Thank you Susan I read your book on vacation and it was a perfect plane/beach read.

But lacked something in the telling. It did keep my attention, but didn't hold together. I kept wishing for more to happen!Read more
