Death Glitch by Ken Douglas is a different thriller, to be sure. The main character, an elderly heart surgeon dying of cancer, ends up getting shot while trying to keep her granddaughter from being the victim of an assassination. She dies in the shooting, but wakes up in the morgue as a young woman with some incredible health powers. She tries to keep a lid on the story (as she doesn't understand it herself), but the news starts to get out to people who would do anything to study her and find out what happened. It could well be that she's a walking fountain of youth now...

There were a number of twists as the plot progressed, and the story went off in directions I couldn't have imagined when it started. Most of the characters have an interesting mix of good and bad, black and white, and you're not always sure which side of the fence they are in any given situation.

It's hard to nail this down into a specific genre. It's a thriller and mystery, to be sure, but the "back from the dead" angle takes it a bit into the supernatural. If you're into something different, this might be of interest to you.

In this slice `em and dice `em era, everything seems headed for categorization. On your way to lunch one day to dine on the "best corned beef sandwich in its class," you may cruise through your local bookstore to find "A Christmas Carol" and "Hamlet" in the ghost story section. Such distinctions are ignored by Ken Douglas--pity the booksellers. "Death Glitch" recognizes no genre-specific limitations. Despite several typos, it's simply a well-told and enjoyable tale that, days later, still has me thinking about the choices made by major characters at the end.

The unlikely protagonist, Izzy, a cancer-ridden, septuagenarian ex-heart surgeon has a big secret or is rather the embodiment of a big secret, one she doesn't understand but can't hide, so word gets out within the hour, and she's on the run. Her former colleagues and a megalomaniacal businessman each muster significant resources to find her. Izzy hooks up with an assassin, and prey becomes predator.

The book was fairly well written. It was an easy and entertaining read but the plot was a cop out. It felt like the author just ran out of imagination.

Isadora "Izzy" Eisenhower is a former heart surgeon, she's seventy-seven and dying of cancer when she gets a phone call from a former patient who is the son of one of Reno, Nevada's movers and shakers. The caller, who is running his father's business, tells Izzy her granddaughter is about to be murdered.

Izzy rushes to her granddaughter's aide, manages to warn her in time, but is shot dead in the process. She wakes in the morgue, miraculously healed, not only of the wound which killed her, but of the cancer as well. And she's young again. It seems sixty years have falling away like rain.

Security cameras record her in the hospital and you can imagine what happens next. The powers that be are astounded and they want Izzy's secret, but Izzy's no dummy, she realizes right off the bat that if caught, they'll lock her away till they find out how she became young again, then they'll probably dispose of her. So she goes on the lam.

And thus begins a story replete with chase scenes and characters and situations that kept me flipping the pages like there was no tomorrow. This is a very quick read and it's very entertaining.

I'm an author myself, and don't often get enough time to read for pleasure. So when I pick up a book, I want a good read. I got it and then some. I REALLY, REALLY liked Death Glitch. Fabulous dialogue, laughs, suspense . . . a PLOT! Imagine that. Likable heroines to root for, bad guys, action, plot twists that are unpredictable (Black to Blackie, who would have thought), cars, Glocks and aliens. Lila and Izzy make a great team. Put Thelma and Louise to shame. These two ladies are hot and you will want them on your side in a jam. A well written, thrill-packed ride. Wow, what a movie this would be! Thank you, Mr. Douglas!

It takes more than cancer to slow down Izzy Eisenhower, a 77-year-old grandmother determined to save her granddaughter's life. A chance meeting leaves her dead and then reborn as a young and healthy woman. This fast paced book has a cast of interesting characters and a surprise ending. A good read.
