Death on the Line: The MacKay Mysteries, Book 1 Kindle Edition
It is 1763. For eighty years, skirmishes erupted along the controversial border of the American colonies of Pennsylvania and Maryland. Astronomer Charles Mason and surveyor Jeremiah Dixon were sent by the king to resolve the issue with the latest in 18th century technology. The native tribes contested it. The two colonies contested it. No matter how accurate their survey, one side would not be willing to accept their results.
Eager to please and desiring to start a new life in the colonies, Angus Mackay, a young Scotsman is hired as their assistant. When Angus stumbles upon a dead body, there are suspects galore: natives tribes, locals on each side spying on each other, a gun-toting minister, and a sheriff who’d like nothing more than to arrest Angus. Suddenly the game changes from defining a line on the ground to defining the line between good and evil.
Can Angus wade through the growing number of suspects and false trails to learn the truth and in the process find acceptance for himself?
Set against a backdrop of historical events and figures from the past, Death on the Line is a murder mystery in the style of a classic cozy with an amateur sleuth. It is Book One of the Mackay Mystery series providing entertainment with a puzzle to solve.

I'm a history buff myself (though I prefer earlier period) so I was wondering throughout, how much of it was factual. The historical details provided at the end really showed to me the amount of research the author did that enabled her to achieve the right balance of historical fact and fictional story without losing sight of the goal - make it believable and entertaining. I was impressed with the way the author blended actual historical fact, not only used in the background but within the storyline itself and not get bogged down with it. I look forward to more books from this author.

This book is a wonderful mix of crime writing in the tradition of cosy mystery and well-researched historical fiction. The style is easy and flows well. It is a fun read, and I look forward to hearing more about Angus, his employers and his friends as the series develops.
A great read that was clearly researched deeply to ensure that the history is as engaging as the fiction. I really enjoyed the story and the main character feels very realistic and personable. A good story start to finish.
