Many people are shocked by this figure, but our eyes have been opened to the full horror of modern medicine. There have been 140,000 fatal or near fatal reactions to Vioxx; one third of the millions of women who took fen-phen, the weight loss drug, suffered heart and lung damage; heart disease is caused by Celebrex and all the other non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs; Prozac is causing suicides and homicides as well as heart disease. The list is seemingly endless. Beta blocker drugs have been responsible for an additional 800,000 needless deaths in a 5-year period in Europe, we don’t even have statistics for North America.

Death by Modern Medicine goes beyond the statistics of deaths due to drugs to how the medical monopoly that created the system in the first place is allowed to control health care. There are chapters on propaganda, health care bureaucracy, the business of cancer, media and our own personal addictions to sugar and drugs, and the denial we all harbor to help us cope with the overwhelming burden, are woven into this 487-page volume.

lots of really good info and not so fun fun facts about our medical history. a good companion C Dean's "the miracle of magnesium", now in its 3rd edition. . I gave both books to a nurse friend who of course never reads such things and avoided these as well... Closed minded attitudes like that in our medical world are all the more reason you should make it a point to find and read both books. Its not a good thing that my grandmother knew more about the helpful effects of magnesium and other herbs than most Dr Idiots... My grandmother lived to be 94, i'm looking foe a new Dr Idiot since my last one died in his 50s.

Don't read this if you love the current medical industry. Or if you love being on multiply drugs every day. If you feel somethings not right when the drug companies are pushing drugs at us (and our kids) all day, every day on the TV, you are right. Read this book and get your eyes opened. Did you know in Australia, drug companies can not advertise on TV? Lawyers either but that's a whole other topic.

It details processes and critiques policies used to bring any drug to market. Do you believe you suffer from a prescription drug deficiency? Many conditions, including obesity, may be the result of inadequate nutrients --vitamins and minerals-- in the standard American diet.

This book gives the reader an insight into the world of medicine as well as the disconnect between the treatment of health, (alternative products) and the treatment of disease, (doctors prescriptions and the big pharma companies). It does make one wonder when it seems that one prescription medication has side effects that need to be treated by a second or even a third prescription medication!
