Suddenly, as Cassie accepts a first lunch date with good-looking, Scott James from the antique store, she is startled when the police come driving up and take Scott into custody...what is the crime and is he the criminal?
Not to mention she arrives back in town and learns her boyfriend of yore, Wendell Graham, has been murdered. Is Scott the killer? What? Could her taste in men be that wrong? Oh, yeah it could, evidenced by her ex-fiancé who texted the engagement off.
And why does this man, Tim keep trying to talk with her? Cassie is simply bewildered by it all, but when Wendell's sister asks for her help in solving the crimes...who can say 'no.'
This book was fun to read. The story was rather complex even though it feels 'simple.' I found I was liking several characters and others were slimy.
Then, at the ending of the tale, the author treats the reader to trivia, and riddles, and stories, all from the Post Office. Like I said, this book was fun to read. I am anxious to read the next tale.
Cassie Miller has left her job at the main post office in Boston to return to her hometown of North Ashcot, Massachusetts to care for her dying aunt. Cassie now works at the post office in the small town as Postmaster, but retired Postmaster, Ben, still likes to be part of the postal scene on occasion. All goes well until someone breaks into the post office and steals all 200 of the new phone directories. An odd theft in a small town.
It isn't long before a body is found, and it takes a while to identify the remains. To Cassie's surprise, an interesting gentleman is taken into custody in relation to this crime. This setsCassie off on her own search to find the truth.
Death Takes Priority is an interesting mystery and the first one I've read about the postal system. A lot of information is included about the everyday work of a post office in a small town. Main character, Cassie, is a modern woman who is relaxed and with a down-to-earth attitude, and she is very likeable. The mystery is multi-layered and not that easy to solve. An enjoy book.
Cassie is a strong character, and I enjoyed getting to know her and her fry.
The mystery itself was interesting and I was kept guessing until the end. I'm looking forward to reading the other books in this series.
I recommend the book even if you don't want to make puzzles out of the words.
