It seems that a massive wave, a "death wave", of gamma radiation is spreading out from the center of the Milky Way galaxy. This wave will reach earth in 2,000 years, but many other planets will be overtaken by the wave much sooner. Jordan believes that the people of earth must go to the aid of these planets that are in line with the wave. But chairwoman of the World Council Anita Halleck sees differently. Ruling with an iron fist, she believes that earth has nothing to worry about for 2,000 years. Furthermore, she believes that Jordan and his alien wife are nothing more than attention seekers who are using their new-found celebrity status to stir up trouble. What lies ahead is a power struggle between Kell and Halleck which will include rogue news broadcasts, false imprisonment, and assassination attempts. Will Jordan be able to convince the powers-that-be of the approaching danger, or will Halleck and her followers succeed in silencing him?
Ben Bova has been one of my favorite authors for several years, and I've enjoyed the first two books in this trilogy. The characters are well-developed, and the plot line of the deadly wave of gamma radiation potentially destroying earth is interesting. I hope the final book in this trilogy is as good as the first two. Highly recommended.
Unfortunately it's even worse than New Earth.
Things happen to the characters and they react to it and very often in a very dumb way.
Plot line have no surprise or twist.
Jordan Kell the hero of the book is supposed to have a diplomat background but he seems unable to keep his cool when something happen.
It's the first time that I stopped reading a SF book before its end. I was at 3/4 of it and realized that it was more a chore to read it than anything else. I had bought the next book of the series in advance and I know I won't read it now.
Can't wait for the next one!
