Blog postRose with Miss Ruby Heart
I recently interviewed one of my author friends, who just happens to be one of the kindest people I know. Here’s what she had to say.
I’m Rose English and I’m a Read-a-holic. I was born in the Yorkshire mining village of Bentley in Doncaster. Brought up on a staple diet of ladybird books and the music and films of the king – Elvis Presley (mum was a mega-fan). We even had our own library in the shed at the bottom of our garden. It was like a m11 months ago Read more -
Blog postI had chosen my little corner of heaven. I had chosen my people and they had accepted the fact that they (well some of them) were now dog people. It was now up to me to become a home bod and get rid of the wanderlust mindset I’d developed during my seven months of being alive. This wasn’t as easy as you might think. The smells, the sounds, the excitement that I felt being totally free and unleashed pulled at my heartstrings.

Blog postLast time we heard how Tania and her family met the dog now known as Boydog. In this sequel, Boydog tells it from his point of view. Woof ruff, woofity woof, Boydog (That roughly translates to, ‘thanks, you good boy’, in dog).
Hello, I’m Boydog. And yes, I know you’re thinking that someone around here lacks imagination big style, but I can assure you I’m not bothered in the slightest. If having a daft name means a life off the streets, then I can put up with the whispers and sniggerin2 years ago Read more -

Tania Grange is the chef at the delicious organic food company ‘Mish Mash’, here in Souni Village, Cyprus. Thanks for sharing some of Boydog’s story with us this week Tania.
Once upon a time there was a little dog called Boydog. He may have known he was a dog and he probably knew he was a boy, but he didn’t know he was a Boydog because he hadn’t yet met the family who gave him that name.

Blog postThe Dog Squad Blog returns with a post from my good friend and netball buddy Sarah.
Benji joined our family in 2012. He was six months old rescued from a family that didn’t want him. That’s all we were told about his background, except that apparently he’s a Patterdale Terrier. That explains his wiry coat and the way he chases anything that moves, and he is so fast. His favourite pastime is chasing squirrels, cats or pheasants but Benji doesn’t appear to like cows. In November, 2016, I started re-taking the online quizzes as to which dog breed would suit me, and I knew it was time to bring a second dog into our life again. A friend for Sherlock, whose story I told here https://debmcewansbooksandblogs.com/2019/04/10/dog-squad-blog-elementary-my-dear-watson/. There, it seemed she was always the go-to person for writing speeches, presentations, blogs, you name it, no matter her actual job. Blog postThis week my friend Michelle Neighbour tells us about her love of animals and the ever expandingNeighbour pack.
As a massive animal loverI’d lost my beloved dog Holly in 2006 when she was twelve. In 2010 Holly’s beloved sister Sammie died at the grand old age of sixteen. I swore never to have another pet. I’d had the dogs before having children and thought it was unfair to have pets when I had young children to look after.
That plan didn’t last long.

With change afoot in her family, will Sandy be able to concentrate on the mission? And when there’s a choice between saving themselves or others, will Sandy and her people parents have the courage to do what’s right?
"McEwan made her canine heroes almost human: these dogs think, reason, plot and plan. They feel the pain of both their canine and human friends and they share their feelings with their buddies through their barks and actions. Their “doggy dialogue” is as close to human dialogue as it gets and it’s so well done, it’s easy to forget at times that the protagonists of The Island Dog Squad are actually dogs... Clever writing indeed"
