Review

“There is nothing more chi-chi than chilling out with a couple of needles and a ball of wool… knitting is fashionable, sexy… the new yoga.”
The Telegraph --This text refers to an out of print or unavailable edition of this title.

From the Publisher

Inspired by three themes—Seaside, Modern Country, and Urban—Debbie Bliss has created stunning garments and home accessories to suit every mood and occasion. Evoking the pleasures of a sunny weekend by the sea, there are cable-stitch cushions for lazing on the sand, a moss-stitch rug for the beach house, and a handy duffel bag for collecting seaside treasures. Debbie's modern country designs conjure the delights of a snug farmhouse kitchen, with slippers, a tea cozy and kettle holder, plus a luxurious throw to warm up cold winter nights. For urban living, there's a funky-chic handbag, a brilliant plaited scarf, and a cool dotted cushion that will add style to any living room. All the patterns are easy to knit and have clear, step-by-step instructions. And with Pia Tryde's stunning photography, this is the ultimate book for Debbie Bliss fans everywhere. Debbie Bliss, former designer for Baby Gap, is the best-selling author of more than a dozen books, including Special Knits for Babies, Junior Knits, Baby Knits for Beginners, The Baby Knits Book, Debbie Bliss Knitting Workbook, How to Knit, and Classic Knits for Kids.

This book is so beautifully presented it should be marketed as a coffee table book. The patterns are really beautiful and very usable around the home. I really enjoyed making some of the items, and the patterns were easy to follow. The wool recommended was very expensive, but I managed to interchange with little problem. I would recommend this book.

I love Debbie Bliss, normally. I got this book without browsing it first because I usually love Bliss' patterns. But on closer inspection, I should have gotten it from the library. The patterns are, well, dull. Spotted pillows, a tea cozy, a couple of sweaters that I don't like. I will make the spotted pillows, but Erika Knight makes far better home pattern books. Pass this one by.

I checked this out from the library and now have put it in my wish list. I am surprised by the poor reviews, but I could see myself knitting up several of the projects in here. Not really complicated, and some quite easy. Modern projects, not outdated. Go figure........ I am glad I went and checked out the book.

Love, love, love this book! Wonderful, fun, easy patterns. I mean seriously, where can buy 27 patterns for under five bucks? I plan on making most of the projects in the book. I consider myself an advanced beginner knitter and find some of the projects are for more advanced knitters but not impossible. I believe this book is a must for beginners and experienced knitters alike. Break into your stash or use it for an excuse to buy that new yarn and enjoy creating all the wonderful projects.

I usually like Debbie Bliss books, but this one, even with its nice photography, falls a bit flat. The two sweater patterns are very nice, but the rest of the patterns are rather dull and of the "why should I knit this by hand with expensive yarn when I can buy something already made up that looks close enough for much less money" variety.

Borrow from your library first, before buying.
