  • Oh, Holy CRAP!! All Hail Pepper Winters, Undisputed Queen of the Darkness.  Yes, this is absolutely Vintage Pepper Winters - a darkly fascinating and compelling read that will have you hurtling through the pages and howling for more at the end. I completely devoured this book!  It absolutely consumed me and I found it nigh on impossible to put down. This is a lightning storm of high quality dark erotica, both frightening and fascinating.  This is Pepper Winters at her finest--Sinfully Sexy Books
  •  In typical Pepper fashion, her brilliant & wickedly imaginative writing style captivates you from the very beginning.  Jethro and Nila's unique relationship keeps you turning page after page in this dark and suspenseful serial romance--The Rock Stars of Romance

  •  It's finished!!!! I turned the page and there was no more!!! That can't be right? How could she do that to me??? OMG!!!! I'm speechless. I'm a mess!!! My nerves are shot!!! My hands are shaking!!!! I need a minute.... I need ten... actually I need a stiff drink... whiskey (neat) to try and even begin to process what I just read. Wow, "Debt Inheritance" was mind blowingly amazing and if you thought you'd seen the best Pepper Winters had to offer, think again--Hopelessly Romantic Book Blog

***Please note, this is a Dark Romance. If you don't like darker topics, please don't read. It's ultimately a love story, but to find pleasure you must feel pain. You have been warned.***

The story is about a young woman Nila Weaver who is captured by Jethro Hawk and abused by multiple people associated with the Hawk family as penance for a 600 year old vendetta. There is a contract that was signed by her ancestors promising the first born daughter from each generation of Weavers to the Hawk family to be sacrificed to save the Weaver family. Ummm okaaay. Personally I'd meticulously plan and execute the grizzly deaths of the entire Hawk clan before I'd hand over my kid, or die trying. Oh and Jethro's father abused, degraded and finally murdered her mother years earlier taking her away from her young children, Nila and her twin brother. And yet her weak, pathetic father willingly sends her to this fate to save his own ass. Even knowing Nila's ultimate fate Jethro has no problem with any of this. The icing is that she is "helplessly" attracted to him. She is to be tortured, starved and sexually assaulted until she breaks and then released through death by beheading. I cannot imagine a less sexy scenario than this one.

The antihero here has not a single kind thought about the plight of this woman. Sure he wants to be the one who abuses her first, but even that possessiveness is rank. He slaps her for vomiting on his shoes out of fear and disgust at what is expected of her. His elderly father licks her privates and he just stands there pissed at her because she isn't meek enough. He threatens her, never offers a morsel of food the entire book, and stands by watching as a gang of men lick and violate her as she serves them lunch naked.

It's not that I am so against the content of the book. It was the horrible way it was presented. Like any court would uphold a barbaric contract from 600 years ago, which is his threat to keep her in line.

I read Debt Inheritance in the anthology Captured. I enjoyed most of the books until I reached this one. I won't go into the story line, several other one star reviews already do that. I suggest you read them before spending your money on this book. How this book ended up in a romance anthology I can't for the life of me figure out. There was ABSOLUTELY NO, AND I MEAN NO romance. I understand dark but this is a sick and twisted book that doesn't even have the decency to end. (The series goes on forever... 6 or 7 books plus an epilogue.)The anthology didn't state it was part of a series.
You know there is something wrong with a "romance" book when you are hoping and praying that the "Hero" dies a horrible, painful death along with the rest of his evil family. There is nothing the author can do to redeem the Hero. Well, maybe if he helps the heroine escape and then kills himself and the rest of his family/"club". He is truly, truly disgusting and vile.
I read a lot. In the last 10 years I have read over 2500 books/novellas. This one gets the dubious honor of being the WORST book I have EVER read and I have read some bad ones. Pepper Winters is going on my DO NOT BUY list. I only have 3 other authors on it. Consider yourself warned!!!

I love dark romance, fantasy, horror, the whole nine yards. This book, however, I hated. Simply put, it's all about rape. At no point in time does the main female character have a willing sexual encounter with anyone in the book. Technically there isn't any actual penetration, but there are sexual acts and all of them are done through coercion. If the main female character doesn't do whatever she is told to do her entire family will be killed.

Rape is not sexy. It's not hot, it's not fun, it's not a happy place. It's ugly, painful, and a scar your soul carried for all time. There is no way to fall in love with your rapists, abuser, or someone who threatens to kill everyone you've ever loved.

This book is not dark, it sets evil as an example of being acceptable. Evil is never okay, never excusable, never justified.

As far as writing goes, it's merely okay. The stretches of logic are a bit too much to be believed. The idea that an internationally famous designer can just disappear is crazy at best. Sure, there can be excuses but gossip rags love a scandal and will hunt it down again during a slow 'news" week. An estate that is hundred of hectares large that no one knows about/ Maybe in Wyoming, but not in the UK.

OMG, Pepper Winters does not disappoint in this dark and twisty book. I couldn't put it down. The story, the characters, Pepper knows how to suck you in and just when you thought you knew what was going to happen, think again.

I had really high hopes for this new series and as usual Ms Winters did not disappoint. The first book in the Indebted series introduces us to Nila. Nila's professional life is on the up, her private life not so much. She doesnt date so when her father introduces her to the gorgeous Jethro Hawk she happily goes with him. Jethro is an ass (I loved him). He's arrogant, very impatient and has plans for Nila. I can't say much more without spoilers and I refuse to spoil this book. It sucked me in from the first page and I actually read this twice trying to find answers to some of the questions I had. I ended up with more. I would definitely recommend you read this. The story and characters are fantastic and as always with Pepper Winters I'll be damned if I can figure out how this story is going to go. Two days after reading it and I haven't picked another book up since. A fantabulous start to another brilliant series.
