Christmas--with no debt, less stress, and more joy!

Christmas may be the most wonderful time of the year, but it's also one of the most stressful--and most expensive. With Mary's guidance, you'll discover what caused you to overspend in the past and how to approach this Christmas with a plan. It just might be the best gift you can give yourself and your family.

The Affordable Christmas: How to Have a Fabulous Holiday without Breaking the Bank
Story starts out with how the author got into debt one year and it followed them even after the holiday. I've always been one to make things and hope this book would be one of those do it yourself kind of books.
I am always willing to learn how to make decorations in a different way.
Discussions on how the credit card make it possible to always have a nice holiday and pay for it later....
The holiday is so commercialized now we have gotten away from the true meaning of the holiday.
Preparing and planning and other ways to cut back are discussed. Each chapter ends with a letter from how one person's Christmas holiday and how they coped with a change.
Liked the sections on bargain shopping and the recipes and listings of books for the holiday season.
Lots of gift ideas and traditions that are easy to make/do that won't break your budget. Very extensive index at the end.
Other works by the author are highlighted at the end of the book.

I really enjoyed reading this book and have recommended it to several people. I am not willing to loan it out because it such a great resource. I think I will buy several more for Christmas gifts next year. There are some great money saving tips in it, some neat crafts and recipes.

Excellent way to assess your Christmas spending and gift-giving by planning ahead. Also offers some great ideas to make gift giving truly special, with creative ideas for everyone from kids to senior citizens. One premise is that "a gift from the heart is a gift of time and talent," encouraging you to think of ways to tailor the gift to things you can do for other people.

This prompted me to make personalized Christmas cards for my 93-year old aunt. I even scanned her signature into each card and hand-addressed each envelope. I mailed 30 cards to her in Canada. All she had to do was apply the Canadian postage and drop them in the mail. I don't know who was more thrilled with the gift - my aunt or me. It was the perfect gift.

This book covers not only spending, but family values, relationship and traditions as well. It helped me focus on a more meaningful Christmas. Each gift I gave was a gift of love meant specifically for that individual. A valuable resource.

This book has some good ideas if you stick with it. When those January credit card bills start hitting, think about this book to build 2014 for next Christmas. I make nearly all of my gifts tailored just for that individual. When the family draws names, they set up a program to be sure I don't get the same person 2 years in a row because everyone loves my gifts.

After seeing so many people go into debt and spend ridiculous amounts of money because of perceived obligations, it was a breath of fresh air to see this book full of practical and realistic advice for planning and avoiding debt during the holiday season.

This book is highly recommended for anyone who wants to break out of the rampant consumerism being foisted on us in the Christmas season!

I don't have a problem with a debt-free Christmas, a lesson learned many years ago. However, thought I would see what the author said, and found many creative ideas for things to do or make. Especially good for anyone looking for imaginative ideas on how to celebrate the season.

We all should read this and then apply it to our lives. It does give helpful ideas on how to stay out of debt and still feel great about the season of giving. In our home we are keeping much closer to Christ and less to the world this season
