Layla O’Reilly is still hurting from the betrayal of her fiancé and needing someone to blame, she has focused on Seth Murphy. While Seth didn’t intentionally throw Layla’s fiancé and her cousin together, things progressed and now Layla finds herself attending a wedding that should have been hers. While at the wedding, an opportunity arises for Layla to land a big client for her home staging business, which has yet to take off, arises but it is based on the lie that she and Seth are engaged. Seth has loved Layla since before his best friend, and current groom, started dating her. This is his opportunity to show Layla that he’s not the man she believes him to be.
While Layla struggles with letting go of being hurt in the past and her unfair blame of Seth in what happened with her fiancé, Seth struggles to show Layla that he is a good guy and that he wants more with her than a fake engagement. While Layla decorates his home for a Christmas decorating contest, she learns more about him and finds her feelings are changing toward him. Layla’s brother, Beckett, and his fiancée, Madison McKinley, make an appearance in the novella as well.
****Booksneeze and Zondervan Publishing provided me with a free eCopy of this book in exchange for an honest and fair review. I was not compensated in any way for either a negative or a positive review.
I love reading books by Denise Hunter. She writes great attraction between characters. Layla and Seth find themselves in a pretend engagement. The whole town thinks they are getting married on Christmas Eve. Layla is also working on staging Seth’s house for a Tour of Homes, so they are spending a lot of time together. Will Layla be able to forgive Seth for something that she blames him for in the past? Will Seth be able to convince Layla that he would actually like the engagement to be the real kind instead of a farce?
Even though this is not a full length novel, I felt that the characters were fully developed, their attraction felt very real and the story did not feel rushed at all. A very good story that I am glad I read during December. However, I would recommend this book for romance fans to read at any time of the year.
Layla has to find a date to her cousins wedding to her fiancée. Well he is not her fiancée anymore. So why would she go to his wedding? Anyone would understand her not attending this wedding. Yes, but he is marrying her cousin Jessica. Seth who has been a friend and would like nothing more than to be there for Layla. So when Layla’s date cancels and she agrees to go with Seth what could possibly happen? Is the wedding the opportunity for Seth to make his move?
I very much enjoyed this story. It seemed almost scripted and seamless as I turned each page. This is my first time reading a novella by Denise Hunter. I think she may have found a new fan. One note is this novel is connected to the Chapel Springs series. The first novel in this series is Barefoot Summer. I am interested in learning more about these characters in this series.
Don’t miss the rest of the novellas in this great Bridal series!

All in all it was a nice story. Perfect for reading by the fire or while wrapped up warm in bed. I read it in a few hours and I enjoyed it. I feel quite Christmassy now. I might start making some decorations...
