Some kids seem to have only two volumes: LOUD and LOUDER
Whatever the reason, remember, each child is unique and may require individual attention when teaching proper voice volume. Here is a strategy that can help:
- Whisper. Whispering will get kids' attention because it makes them curious. Kids will always want to know if there's a secret. Whispering will get a child's attention much more effectively than yelling.
Julia Cook has done it again. In the spirit of her previous work, she has taken a social concept and defined it with a child-friendly story and engaging main character. Julia offers a non-judging and child-friendly approach to teaching the hard parts of social interaction. Decibella and Her 6-inch Voice is one of those 'must have' gems that every teacher can use over and over again. --Kari Dunn Buron, Education Specialist and Author
Fun Book! This book is just so fun! I am working with a few students who struggle with understanding the difference between their indoor voice and outdoor voice. This book explains five different volumes as well as when they are appropriate. I also love that the author gives an example of a silly word to practice with. I have students use "Slurpadoodle" and practice saying it in their whisper voice, 6-inch voice, table talk voice, strong speaker voice and outside voice. --Heather, blogger @ schoolcounselingconnections.blogspot.com --This text refers to the paperback edition.

Unfortunately the twin that doesn't have this problem likes the book more than the one that does, haha. The book doesn't always 'read' like a story very well, and the concept of 5 different voice volumes is difficult for my toddlers to understand exactly. However, if you tailor the content to your situation and make up your own words to frame it, it's really helpful. We focus on 3 of the 5 voices, and they seem to understand it better.

Even though a few American words in Julia Cook ..books I'm becoming quite a fan of the way important messages are addressed by the author.
She just love it! ❤️
