The author tells us SPECIFICALLY what not to do, and how not to do it. I was able to use this to recognize patterns in my own past decisions, and with the framework laid out in the rest of the book, develop a plan moving forward. Whitaker does a masterful job of standardizing a process driven approach to decision making. While taking real life scenarios, Whitaker walks through a lifetime full of decisions and experiences. He discusses choices, consequences, and responses. I wish he had wrote it a few decades ago. I think this should be on the reading list for everyone. Young hungry minds who are willing to learn and have a lifetime ahead of them would get a great deal out of this book. Well established entrepreneurs are going to gain from his decision making process.

All of us make little decisions everyday. This book made me be more mindful of the decisions I make. Setup 5 prime goals and then make decisions that support them. Want to lose some weight? Then don't eat the stuff that will take away from that goal. This book will make you start thinking differently. The advice is all practical. The exercises in the book make you really think about how you make decisions. I highly recommend this book to anyone that wants a better life. I hope he writes another book.

Almost daily I encounter people who are not happy with their circumstances. Far too many of these people blame outside forces – the economy, the political party in power, the educational system, their friends/relative or some other factor for their situation. Rarely do they acknowledge that their position in life is the sum of all their prior decisions.

If we fail to recognize the basic truth – we are a sum of all our prior decisions – then they are left playing the victim role and powerless to bring about improvements in their lives.

Mike Whitaker, author of The Decision Makeover, has provided a comprehensive resource for anyone wishing to bring about real change in their lives.

He starts by exploring how and why we make decisions. If you ask most people, they will tell you they are good at making decisions. But the “proof is in the pudding” – just look at the average person’s life and you will see a true reflection of how well we make decisions.

Then he shares his insights into the cost of making poor decisions. Not all decisions we make have equal impact on our lives. Some poor decisions – the choice of what movie to see – might have a short-term impact. On the other hand, our decision about a career or spouse can impact our lives for years or even decades.

If we are generally bad decision makers, there should be some clues about what we do wrong. Mr. Whitaker gives some good pointers on what we do wrong when it comes to making decisions.
