** Update: Still going strong. And when I say "strong" I mean constantly cleaning up after a 2 year old and a 1 year old. I clean it one day, it's filthy the next. Our kids are animals. We are terrible parents. But this thing keeps truckin' ** Sept 2012
I see some of the funniest comments about these.
1- It won't last longer than 10 minutes (If you're vacuuming for 10 minutes then it's not a job for a little dustbuster).
2- It's a mess to empty (who empties a vacuum in their house to begin with? Do it outside!)
3- The filter gets dirty quickly (that's because it's a tiny product to begin with. Any bigger and it wouldn't be a Dustbuster).
Honestly, this is a boring, no frills, does what it should product. Yeah, you have to dump it pretty often. I never use it more than a few minutes but I bet it doesn't last much beyond 10. The construction is good enough but not noteworthy.
Just buy it. Keep it simple, ya' know? Keep the box and receipts if you have a problem. In fact, it's probably best to pay a few extra bucks and buy it locally in case you do have some issue with it.
Cons: I'm trying to replace a CHV9600 who's battery has died. Amazed to find that Black and Decker no longer makes good dust busters. They're all cheap, gimmicky and meant to earn them the most money with devices which need frequent replacement.
The filter in the CHV1408 is a joke. If sucking up dust, it will clog within a few minutes. We used our CHV9600 with the pleated VF100 filter for months without ever having to clean it.
The slider to "clean" the filter is a useless joke. Gimmick with no value.
The battery is not replaceable and B&D doesn't list is as a replaceable part even though they list other internal parts.
The dustbuster is advertised to have "triple filtration". Another gimmick. The last filter can't even be accessed, so if it clogs up, you have to buy a new unit. The first filter doesn't count much as a filter, leaving the junk VF08 filter which clogs very quickly.
Once clogged, suction is understandably non-existent.
And some of the prices listed here are outrageous. Its $40 at Sears. But its not worth it anyway.
Sad that B&D has stopped making decent Dust Busters and is instead trying to gouge consumers. Their strategy seems to be working too. Haven't found a competing handheld vacuum thats decent either.

I can sum this product up in two words-Chinese junk! The battery won't charge and it cannot be replaced.Published 1 month ago by Amazon Customer
Have had it for some years now, so I don't even know if this model is still being sold, but it's great. Good suction power for the size. Read morePublished 10 months ago by Dancing Feet
It takes two fingers to push the turn on button. Has a very small intake so a 1"x 1 1/2 " piece of paper doe not fit thru the tube. Read morePublished 12 months ago by Tula
Didnt't have nearly the suction power that I was looking for and the filter inside the collection chamber seemed to get covered with debris as soon as anything was sucked up. Read morePublished 23 months ago by Steve B
