I have been purchasing Black & Decker coffee makers for years.
This one replaced my last Black & Decker coffee maker which lasted about 4 years until it stopped getting hot.
Issues: I am left handed, this pot has the coffee filter removable mount turned to the right instead of centered, why???
It does not sit into the reservoir correctly. The last B&D coffee makers the filter basket would sit flush, this one does not at all.
It wants to jump out as you are adding coffee to the filter.
#2. Why would they move the see thru fill level indicator on the right side where it is blocked on a counter top.
Their last coffee makers always had the water fill see thru on the left, clearly visable on a counter top.
The simulated chrome trim is a nice touch. If you can deal with a coffee filter basket slanted to the right for no reason that wants to jump out as you are trying to close the lid then for the price this is a good coffee maker with a bright white/chrome nice look....buy it.
I've postponed my search for a more expensive maker because this little dream machine is already meeting my needs! Thank you Black and Decker for making a simple and functional coffee maker!!!
UPDATE: 4 months later. I STILL love it! After a daily pot of coffee for 4 months straight, this coffee maker is still working perfectly. Just as new! Buy this and you won't be disappointed.
2nd UPDATE: As of January 2014, this coffee maker is STILL going strong. Still functions like new. We've run two vinegar maintenance/cleaning cycles since we have really hard water. The sneak a cup feature still works as well as all the other buttons and features. I LOVE this coffee maker. Don't waste your money on a super expensive coffee maker when this one will do the same thing.
Personally, I don't use the sneak-a-cup feature as I find the first cup that drips out to be very strong and the rest of the pot lacks for want of it. Also, if you grind your own beans, you're probably aware that the longer the grounds are exposed to air, the overall quality of the coffee decreases, thus lowering the quality of every pot you program to brew ahead of time. If you buy pre-ground coffee, this probably doesn't make much of a difference. One other note would be the relatively low brew temperature, but if you pay attention to details like that, you're probably not in the market to buy a $20.00 coffee maker, anyway.
And to address the overflow problem, I agree it is a definite design flaw, but making sure to properly adjust the basket every time is a small price to pay for a machine with virtually no other problems. One tip for avoiding this would be to fill the water reservoir, replace the carafe, and THEN make sure the basket is seated properly and it didn't get displaced by the movement of the carafe. Be sure to take caution with this issue, though. Repeated overflow spills will eventually seep through and damage the electrical components of your coffee maker.
