This newer model has been redesigned: the no-drip carafe is gone, the sneak-a-cup feature works differently, and the footprint of this model is bigger on your countertop. Furthermore, your carafe from the older model is too tall to fit inside this newer one. The new model has the appearance of being a "cost-reduced" version, where the manufacturer uses cheaper components inside and a different shape on the outside so it appears to be new and improved, but is actually more cheaply made. In comparison with the old one, I'm not happy with this unit, and wish I had bought a spare of the old model before it was no longer available.

get the black one for our summer home, where all the kitchen appliances are black. Unable to find this model locally in stores, so ordered online. Like it specifically because the basket sits FLAT on a countertop for easy filling (I am short). The lever for "Sneak a Cup" interrupt feature is behind the carafe and NOT located underneath the basket like so many other coffee makers on the market now. This is what enables the basket to sit flat. This is a great feature, in my estimation.
After using this coffeemaker for a few months now, for some reason this black one doesn't seem to be of the same quality as the white one I purchased in a K-Mart store years ago. The basket on the black one keeps coming apart - when you just touch it, the part that hooks onto the spring keeps coming off of the basket. Also, on the plastic lid on the carafe - one of the little sprockets that clip it onto the carafe is mashed, just from normal use. (Have to take it off carafe to put into dishwasher). This later model B&D coffeemaker seems to be of poorer quality than the first (white) one I purchased years ago. The white one is used at our home, the black one is used at our "weekend" home, and so it gets even LESS use than the white one! Would it be possible for Black & Decker (or Amazon) to replace these parts for me?
I just found a Perfect Pour carafe on Amazon for $17.60 plus shipping. I don't see why I should have to pay extra to get something should have been included with my original order.
Then it completely and suddenly died after just 60 days of gentle, once-a-day use. There are a high number of online reviews that report complete failure of the machine after very short periods of time, indicating a real quality control problem with these coffee makers. Since it has such as simple on-off operation, without any sophisticated or complex inner workings, there is really no excuse for this, other than poor design, very cheap parts, shoddy workmanship, or a combination of all three.
We've submitted our Warranty claim to Applica, who market it under the B&D name, and hope they will respond with an immediate replacement that outlasts this defective one.
I'm normally OK with imported products, but I can't help but wonder if a Made in USA equivalent wouldn't outlast this Made in China one? Caveat Emptor. Let the buyer beware.
So, two stars overall. Four for a good simple machine that made a decent cup of coffee, minus two for breaking down after only 60 days.
