You could buy a more powerful saw, but you would either have to deal with the inconvenience of the power cord, or the added expense of buying different batteries and charger if you went with the Dewalt for example. To buy a Dewalt 18V will run you $200.00 for a kit with a battery and charger. No thanks! I don't need to demolish buildings or cut through 1/8" think steel, so my Firestorm recip saw will do just fine.
I own several of the tools in this series and I love each one of them. I even bought a second line trimmer because it works so well, I wanted to make sure I always had a spare.
I only tried this as a test on a 1" galvanized pipe as a test for metal and it worked just fine. Not industrial strength, but it worked quite well enough for my purposes.
I've mainly used it for medium sized limbs and cutting out some roots from some small trees I had to take down. For that, it has worked great. I dug out around the roots and went to work with this and the stump was out pretty quickly. It is efficient with battery use, too.
I recommend all of the tools in this series. I've linked to the replacement blades I've used for this as well as the other B&D 18v cordless tools I have. (With all of those, I now have 10 batteries and seven chargers! Tip, instead of just buying a battery, look for deals where a tool is almost free and comes with the battery you're going to buy anyway.)

Overall, the saw handles great! Very smooth action. One problem is that because it's battery powered, if you're low on charge, the blade can get stuck, forcing the entire tool to move. That can be annoying!
So make sure you're fully charged and have a few spare batteries around.

So far, so good. The saw handled 2X4s, nails, and thick steel hinges with ease. I can't imagine a cordless saw that could work better. Size and ease of use are great.Published on April 5, 2013 by Brian
