I'll probably need new blades eventually or a new battery; I'll price it out and decide whether to buy new scissors or the parts. These scissors have a permanent home in my sewing room until they're no longer available.
My original scissors started shredding fabric instead of cutting. I decided to buy a new set rather than replace batteries and blades. PLEASE BE AWARE that newer models have a change in design that is not addressed in the owner's manual. Look at where the blades attach to the scissors; this is gray and has an unlock icon. Initially I thought this unlock icon is for blade changing--nope! I had to press the unlock icon and have the safety lock forward in order to start the scissors. I had charged them for 3 days & the scissors wouldn't start; I thought the scissors shipped with a bad battery, so I went to the Black & Decker site to complain. There I found a PDF flyer that stated if the blades get jammed, the unit won't start until this unlock icon is pushed. Hmmm, I thought: maybe the blades jammed in transit, so I pushed the unlock icon & the scissors started. I don't know if this must be done with each use, or initially. In any case, at least I know the scissors work.
I don't understand. I bought a cordless hardwood floor vacuum, and everyone said once it's charged remove the battery from the charger, or it will be ruined. I assumed I should not keep these scissors on charge 24/7 and didn't, however they still won't charge. I read one review on these that said you should keep these plugged in at all times.
So I have no clue, would have been nice if this type of info was included with the item.
I must start buying most things at Costco, you can take something like this back, even a year later when something such as this happens. Keep in mind they were only used TWO TIMES.
Also they DO NOT cut the plastic item you buy come sealed in, they were very weak, probably why I forgot them in the drawer.
I only pulled them out this 3rd time so my brain injured grandson could use them, he can't cut with regular scissors due to his injury.
However, this thing cuts through most things like butter.
It has a little trouble with adhesive backed stuff (like strong tape and felt) but can do it at the right angle and with the blade on the correct side (I think moving blade on the non-adhesive side worked best, but I might have that backwards.
Also has trouble with things that are too thick.
Blister packs EASY
Cardboard boxes EASY
Fabric OMG BREASY -
the fabric thing is actually incredible. The bottom blade doesn't move, so you can slide it along your table top. It's not sharp until you get into the cutting area (kinda like emergency scissors they use to cut off clothes in the ER?). So you can cut along patterns without pulling or distorting the fabric. These are really just awsome.
They aren't too big either, so they are comfortable to grip and use.
Drawbacks: not many, but... no charge indicator. Long charge time 12 hours before first use <- DO that. Not sure (yes I should read the manual, sucks that I have to) but... do I leave it plugged in, or only charge it when it dies?
those drawbacks are minor - and for the price... sheesh this is the greatest thing since slicing bread and butter with a hot laser knife.
