The Declaration, the Sword & the Spy (Epic Order of the Seven Book 8) Kindle Edition

4.8 4.8 out of 5 stars 126 ratings

"THE BRITISH ARE COMING!" . . . but so are THE FRENCH!

A spy in the Sons of Liberty threatens to crush the patriot cause on the eve of war, but who will fire the first shot at Lexington and launch the American Revolution? The Marquis de Lafayette commits his sword to fight as France seeks to secretly support the American cause with spies on both sides of the Atlantic. Following Bunker Hill, George Washington faces the impossible task of driving the British from Boston with an undisciplined army and no gunpowder or cannons. As Congress debates Independence, Thomas Jefferson pens a Declaration—but it will never see the light of day if the vote isn’t unanimous. The Epic Order of the Seven animal team must assist the Founding Fathers with espionage and numerous miracles to win this war for American Independence while a new, evil enemy seeks to slaughter the patriots and their commander in the field. But which will be the more dangerous—the enemy without or the enemy within?

Covering the events from March 1775 to July 1776, this second book in Cote’s Epic Revolutionary Saga tells of the incredible yet lesser-known struggles of the war before Independence.

Review

"A trailblazer!" Five-Star Review by Romuald Dzemo for Readers' FavoriteOne of the rare narratives that are qualified by superlatives. The author ingeniously blends fable, history, and adventure to weave a political tale that entertains and provokes reflection in readers. In a dire moment in the shaping of the history of the American people, the Founding Fathers are faced with challenges they never thought about and the possibility of betrayal by a spy is high. But who is this spy? Meet George Washington in a fierce battle to oust the British from Boston. The Marquis de Lafayette pledges allegiance to the patriots and Thomas Jefferson is committed to writing the Declaration. But can any plans go as envisioned with a vicious enemy from within? But there is a solution: the order of seven animals whose gift for espionage beats the ruse of mortal men.Set against the backdrop of the historical period from March 1775 to July 1776, this narrative accurately retells history and transports the reader to a decisive moment in American history. But the twist will gleefully haunt the thoughts of the readers. The creation of the Order of the Seven is ingenious. While keeping their mannerisms and attitudes, these animals are endowed with intelligence and help to advance the theme of espionage in the story. The Declaration, the Sword and the Spy is absorbing, fast-paced and written to actually transport readers to another time and reality.

"A Superb Book" Five Star Review by Lesley Jones for Readers' FavoriteAs I read this magnificent epic of a novel, I wish that the author could have been around when I struggled with history at school. She brings so much life to an important event in history. The characters are many but I felt I knew each one so well; their determination and bravery to fight for their cause was humbling. I loved the use of correspondence, maps and newspaper articles as this brought even more realism to the story. This is not just a well-written account of the American Revolution and the Declaration of Independence, but a story that details the personal reasons the Founding Fathers took up arms. There are some very brutal battle scenes and psychological games of cat and mouse, which enhanced the plot perfectly. There are also some very emotional scenes that are quite heartbreaking. The Order of the Seven was a fantastic addition to the story; even the animals had strong characteristics. Nigel's superb intelligence and my absolute favorite, Liz, whose huge heart and bravery were admirable. The Declaration, the Sword and the Spy by Jenny L. Cote ticks every box for me with tension, strong plots, amazing areas of conflict and heartwarming relationships. This is one line from the book which I feel sums up the whole message of the novel for me: "If you study men, and you know the history of mankind, predicting the future is not that difficult." The bibliography at the end is a testament to the amount of research the author has done to write this superb book.

The Amazing Tales of Max and Liz® is a two-book prequel series that begins the adventures of brave Scottie dog Max and brilliant French cat Liz. Book One: The Ark, the Reed, and the Fire Cloud introduces Max and Liz, who meet on the way to the Ark and foil a plot by a stowaway who is out to kill Noah and stop his mission. Book Two: The Dreamer, the Schemer, and the Robe brings Max, Liz, and friends to work behind the scenes in the life of Joseph in the land of Egypt. The Epic Order of the Seven® series picks up where the Max and Liz series left off. Book One: The Prophet, the Shepherd, and the Star gives Max, Liz, and the gang their most important mission yet: preparing for the birth of the promised Messiah. Their seven-hundred–year mission takes them to the lives of Isaiah, Daniel, and those in the Christmas story. Book Two: The Roman, the Twelve, and the King unfolds the childhood, ministry and passion of Jesus Christ with a twist – his story is told within the story of George F. Handel composing Messiah. Book Three: The Wind, the Road, and the Way covers Acts 1-18 and Paul’s first two missionary journeys. Book Four: The Fire, the Revelation, and the Fall concludes the story of Acts to the fall of Rome, showing the miraculous birth of the church amidst persecution by the Roman Empire.

AND YOU Gotta have THIS one, TOO!!
Have just finished this WONDERFUL second book in Jenny Cote's American Revolution saga!! I canNOT recommend this MORE to adults as well as young adults!!Just like her first book, "The Voice, The Revolution, & The Key" covering 1743 to 1775, "The Declaration, The Sword, & The Spy" takes you to the time of the forming of the United States of America covering the years 1774 to 1776!! Jenny does an amazing job interweaving historical events with fiction to keep you from putting it down! She puts you RIGHT THERE in the story with the historical figures and Epic Order Of The Seven!! 😃As before, NO, I refuse to give ANYthing away with the story, however, in this installment, she continues to follow Patrick Henry, General George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, and the Marquis de Lafayette, along with a host of others, including a lesser known Virginia delegate and signer of the Declaration of Independence who is mentioned on several occasions, Francis Lightfoot Lee (no direct relation, but I claim him ANYway!! 😉 )I shall take a break from Jenny, UNTIL I can pick up her next installment, which has just recently been released, "The Marquis, The Escape, & The Fox"!!HUZZAH, (again), JENNY, HUZZAH!! ❤

Really, the only words that need to be said is "Read this excellent, inspiring, patriotic, story now!" 😊 That is how I would sum up my review in 7 words with a nod to the epic order of the seven! But if you haven't read "The Voice, the Revolution and the Key" start there first. And then make sure you read all of her other books as they are truly some of the most amazing factual, and at the same time imaginative books, I have ever read. Buy copies for your shelf as you will want to read them again and again and buy copies for your friends, they will all love them!

Back to the book at hand, I learned so much from this story, beforehand I couldn't tell you very much about the Revolutionary War as I only learned names and dates in school and nothing interesting...but oh there is so much of interest to be found in the stories of history and Jenny has a magical way to transport you to a front row seat and get you right involved in the action! Now I can name key players, events, locations and so on because I experienced it in this utterly thrilling way! And as a homeschooling mom, whose son finished this even before me, I can now have intelligent and interesting conversations about this time period. I feel as though this used to be a blank page of knowledge in my mind, with a very generalized black and white image of the American Revolution. Now my brain opens up to a full color display and it is no longer just an event on a timeline but an almost unbelievable period in our country's beginnings that has opened the flood gates of understanding in ways I never dreamed of before (and got me interested into diving into more on the subjects with other books as well!).

I have considered myself a patriot before this, but not to the extent I am now, "Huzzah!" (The 4th of July will be so much more meaningful to me this year!) Isn't this what our modern day country needs so badly right now? To remember our roots, the true cost of freedom and why our country is different than any other, much in thanks to the foundation of independence it was built on and the trust in God as our Creator that the founding fathers believed in. Of course, there were faults during this long battle for freedom and independence, but Jenny so wisely and thoughtfully addresses these issues that it increases my understanding and my own ability to discuss the sensitive issues with my children. And it is wonderful to know that when they are reading it themselves, they are being filled with that truth as well. When I read about the founding fathers, it is with awe at the tasks they pursued and the great sacrifice they gave really to all Americans. Not everything back then was perfect, but Jenny's stories put into perspective the true enemy that mankind has been fighting since the beginning of time. The one who can think of nothing better to do that tear us apart, fuel the fire for war, set up betrayers among friends, and feed us on a rich and ultimately deadly feast of lies.

But oh the Power of Jesus! And oh to remember how He works in the lives of His children and how He is still in control today, nothing is more uplifting to our souls than this! If you don't believe a book about what happened in our nation more than 200 years ago can affect the way you understand modern day conflicts and the enemy's tactics (which truly never change), then I challenge you to read this! If you are open to the Maker's truths, you will not walk away unchanged!

My review is but a simple thank you for each and every story that Jenny Cote has written! I already can't wait for more, the next one can't come soon enough! Extraordinary talent from a mighty pen used for the Glory of God Almighty!
