Review

"Wow. I was considering calling in sick to work so I could finish reading this amazing book. Decline continues the story on from Decide, taking place four years later, when Declan is at the height of his career until he's not anymore. This book is a story of trials, triumphs and self-discovery. " Kate - Bleeding Heart Book Blog

"WOW. Words cannot express how giddy, sad, and excited this book makes me...strap in and get ready, because this series will take you on a rollercoaster ride of emotions!" Renee - Little Birdie Book Blog

"Couldn't put this book down! I loved it. I love the characters." Autumn

About the Author

Michelle Irwin has been many things in her life: a hobbit taking a precious item to a fiery mountain; a young child stepping through the back of a wardrobe into another land; the last human stranded not-quite-alone in space three million years in the future; a young girl willing to fight for the love of a vampire; and a time-travelling madman in a box. She achieved all of these feats and many more through her voracious reading habit. Eventually, so much reading had to have an effect and the cast of characters inside her mind took over and spilled out onto the page. Michelle lives in sunny Queensland in the land down under with her surprisingly patient husband and ever-intriguing daughter, carving out precious moments of writing and reading time around her accounts-based day job. A lover of love and overcoming the odds, she primarily writes romance.

I was really hooked by this book, and would have given it five stars. In fact, I seldom give anything less than four stars because when I don't like a book, I don't finish it or review it. This book really had me hooked, although the main character, Declan, is an immature, selfish jerk, but the story itself drew me in. After watching him try to be good and do the right thing over and over, just to change his mind at the slightest obstacle and revert to his old ways, I was so looking forward to a happy ending. Imagine my shock when the story leaves off on a cliff-hanger!

I am sorry, but this is not 1920s Perils of Pauline. If you want to do a sequel, you run other threads along the romantic story, and pick another character’s story to tell. The main romantic story line should come to a satisfying end. As a reader, I want a satisfying completion to the main romantic thread. When that does not happen, I feel cheated and manipulated that I should have to get another book just to read the ending, and then, there will be no guarantee that there is not another cliff-hanger ending in the next book. A book that should have gotten four or five stars from me, gets three. I would have given it less for the sudden stop, but it is very well written, has a great heroine, and has most of the elements that make a great romance. I really liked it until it left me hanging.

This book was given to me by the author in a Goodreads review group in exchange for a fair review.

WOW.

Words cannot express how giddy, sad, and excited this book makes me…strap in and get ready, because this series will take you on a rollercoaster ride of emotions!

Oh, man. THIS BOOK!! I can tell you right now that it’s awesome and you should read it, but I should probably tell you a little more about it, hey?

Four years after choosing his career over his girlfriend, after becoming a driver for Sinclair Racing, Declan Reede is slipping into his decline. A new girl every night? Binge drinking when nothing goes right? Why not?! But when he gets a chance to right his wrongs, he gives it all he’s got. There are surprises along the way, and even though he’s a total jerk, there are scenes where he’s less of a jerk and makes my heart go all gooey…

Declan’s use of the f-word is atrocious, but it fits his character perfectly; not just added for effect.

The author’s writing is like a breath of fresh air, and the characters are far from flat and boring. Declan and Alyssa seem so real to me, that I spent days thinking about them, after finishing Decline.

So, yeah, go read it!!

I was given an ARC of this story for an honest review.
Declan has made it. He was the youngest champion of the ProV8 Tour, but now his life is falling apart. He can’t sleep, he can’t focus, he has DNF’d (Did Not Finish) multiple times in a row and he is pissed. There is a reason for it though. He caught sight of the girl he loved a long time ago in the stands at a race with another man. But you see, Declan is no longer that same 17 year old boy and Alyssa is not that same 17 year old girl. Four years had passed since that horrible night of their last formal. The night Declan threw everything away. He has spent that time trying to rid himself of her by sleeping with so many women that he couldn’t come up with a number if he tried. He is wild an out of control. For a while, it was drugs, but he kicked that, now it’s drinking and partying. Clubbing and women.
Until the Bathurst 1000. The endurance race he is running when his world comes apart. His team is all set to win when once again, while behind the wheel his mind wanders to Alyssa. Yup, you guessed it. DNF #6.
This is the story of how Declan is going to get his life back. Will he confront the demons of that poisoned relationship. Will he be able to move on and get his mind right? How is he going to confront his past and will he come out unscathed?

Warning, there is a huge cliffhanger. I definitely did not see it coming!

Good writing, solid characters. Would definitely like to read more of this series.

This is a book listed as the first in the series, but really it has a prequel novella, Decide. Reading it will help you get into the mindset of Declan and Alyssa. This book is written from Declan's point of view. In the beginning, Declan has a promising career as a race car driver. His contracts, paparazzi, nightlife and general hedonistic lifestyle have swollen his ego to legendary proportions. He is doing well as a driver until a glimpse of the love of his life, Alyssa, at one of his races causes him to question many things. His choice of becoming a race car driver and following his dream got in the way of his relationship with Alyssa. After this glimpse, he obsesses about this girl that got away. His driving skills suffer so badly that after one last crash, he is sent on a sabbatical to get his head back on track. The many twists and turns in this story had my emotions on a roller coaster. Even the minor characters are well rounded and have impact on Declan making them realistic and relatable. The book does end in a cliff hanger which makes this reader want to read the next in this exciting series.
