I decided to give the Americana Soft Touch Varnish a try, because for the life of me I couldn't get Genesis Matte Varnish to work for me on my reborns. It always came out really thick in some spots and had a rough texture. From the very first time I tried the Americana soft touch varnish, it has worked beautifully. I don't get any overly thick patches and it feels really smooth. The best part is I don't have to bake this...it dries in 1 to 2 hours abs you can do multiple coats if you like (just have to wait for it to dry between each layer). Besides, the you pay for the amount you get is phenomenonal. I only use 1 tsp per layer, so a little goes a long way. I would definitely recommend this product!

I paint reborn dolls. I started using this as a final varnish/sealer when I'm done with painting. I mix it well with 1/4 tsp of corn starch and distilled water, and it goes on nice and matte. Cuts the shine right down and it has a smooth feel. Doesn't leave my doll feeling rough. I hope they are not discontinuing this product. Many reborn doll artists use it.

I've used all the DecoArt varnishes and absolutely love them. The Soft-Touch is my favorite. It can be buffed to a light gleam. The texture/softness to touch is wonderful.I "pet" my furniture that I finished with this varnish. It covers quite a large surface area. I put 2 thin coats to a total of 20 square feet and still had over half the 8 ounce bottle left. It dries to a strong durable finish that resists fingerprints, smudges and scratches. I purposefully tried to mar the surface without any success. I used multiple objects to try to scratch it but not a single mark was left. There's been absolutely no yellowing over my light colored projects. Will purchase again,again,and again. I definitely prefer it over polycrylic, polyurethanes, wipe on polys, and all other brands, waxes and other surface protectants.

after using this product for the first time, I LOVED IT!!!! There is NO ODOR and the coverage is awesome. I used it over a white chalk painted dresser and it did not yellow one bit. It has such a nice feel to it making the furniture feel luxe yet, it doesn't give the fake looking shine. My piece still has a 'chalk painted' look, which I love! It does not scratch helping to protect the painted piece. I bought the 8 oz size jar and covered and entire 6 drawer dresser having enough for 2 coats on the top (for extra protection to the paint) I will definitely purchase this product again and I highly recommend it!

Varnish Feel

The soft touch varnish does feel different than the actual "Americana Decor" paint. The Americana Decor paint scratches so easily, but I love the feel to it, so I found this varnish to use over it, but I didn't wan to lose the feel to it the original feel of the Americana Decor paint. It does feel different, but I believe this is the closest I'll get to the original Americana Decor feel. The varnish does feel soft and and it doesn't scratch at all, and it's not glossy one bit.

I painted a shelf in gray chalk paint and used the varnish because the shelf was going to be in the bathroom. I applied 2 coats with a small soft brush, the varnish went on easier, barely any odor, dried quickly and dried smoothly. Looking at the shelf, it still has the look that I love from chalk paint but I feel more comfortable that it's protected from moisture. The brush cleaned easily with a little soap and warm water. Next, I'm tackling my dining table!
