Bill Duke's Deep Cover is one of the best neo noir cop thrillers ever made. It's expertly directed with outstanding performances from a top notch cast especially Jeff Goldblum and Charles Martin Smith who are against type in shady villainous roles. The cinematography is beautiful with wonderful use of neon lighting and early 1990s L.A. It's a criminally underrated film that finally got it's proper dues with this fantastic Criterion Blu ray release. The transfer is so stunning it makes the film look brand new. Colors are very bold. The audio is a real standout as well showcasing the film's awesome soundtrack and score. If you've never seen Deep Cover (or are already a fan) do yourself a favor and buy this blu ray! It's the only way to fully experience this great film.

I had never seen this movie before. I grew up loving all the 90's hood movies, and for some reason, this one escaped me. I have been on a Jeff Goldblum kick recently and decided to pre-order this Criterion blu ray. This movie is amazing! Everything, everyone and the script itself seem very genuine. I never knew where this movie was going. It hits the ground running and never lets up. Very well done and a shame not more people know about this movie. I am already telling more people about this one so it will hopefully get more of the recognition it deserves. Top notch filmmaking and some truly great performances. I can't recommend it enough and if you're even half tempted to check it out, JUST WATCH IT!

leaving with a question of "how much would you give to get what you want"

I was amazed to see this great underated movie from 1992 coming to Blu-ray and I was even happier to see that Criterion will do the transfer in 4K. I'm really happy, the movie looks amazing and I would say that the transfer is perfect, this looks as good as Do the right thing 4K by Criterion also which is my best colour transfer in 4K. The image looks almost in 3D, the colours are rich, the blacks are deep, the palette of colours offers a great precision with a great clarity and contrast. I can put my old DVD in the garbage. The sound is also very good and clear with that great soundtrack. Deep cover is a movie to discover with a great cast, Laurence Fishburne and Jeff Goldblum at the top of their game they have a wonderful chemistry together. The ensemble cast is also great with great choices to surround Fishburne and Goldblum also a top notch screenplay. I tought this independant movie will be forgotten forever but thanks to Criterion, it comes back with a vengeance.
