" Deep Cover" is about the inside story of how the DEA found out in the very beginning, that Oliver North leaked to the press the name of one of then biggest informants "Barry Seal" and due to North , Seal was murded. AND DUE TO MANY OF THE AGENCIES, ie; immigration, The CIA , even "The Attorney General", Ed Messe and many other government agencies., But these agencies were certainly there to stand up and do a lot of" Grand Standing " ( the ones u see w/ a badge hanging from their breast pocket along in front of the tables piled w/ drugs and guns and taking credit for another record drug bust. When it was the DEA THAT PUT THEIR LIFES ON THE LINE , unable to do their jobs( no protection was given to them when they landed in these South and Central American Countries. And due to the U.S. Governments infighting, incompetence, and subterfuge they lost the biggest battle of the Drug War. It is truly mind boggling and beyond belief what had been going on in the U.S.
Levine really goes into how Oliver North was raising money through drug cartels , which angered the DEA officials who objected it would ruin the drug cases. But Oliver North wanted to shows the government what a great coup it would be , by him showing the Goverment the struggle against Communism. The problem being that the traffickers were smuggling tons of Cocaine while being protected by our Goverment. The Politicians and bureaucrats who supported the drug war are the co- conspirators of the suits.
I will end my comments at that , but this is a MUST buy book, and I have the utmost respect for former DEA Agent Michel Levine ,for having the COURAGE to stand up and fight this people.And the best part is he was still alive to tell his Amazing story.
All the BEST to Michael Levine , and not too many people will go up against a the POWERS that be, for the name of JUSTICE. I know how difficult it can be, as I am one to stand up for what I firmly know to be the TRUTH, and fight some of the biggest power house. And it is not always easy to keep standing up for many of the injustices in our country today. There are those that say " let it go", and I certainly will as soon as I finish my job.
Again, lot of congrats to Michel Levine, for one of the most fascinating books u will ever read.
