Meet Lindsey, a professional photographer, who is working on a dog article for the magazine DogTales, that she owns a 20% share in. Based in the New York/New Jersey area she has arrived in Seattle to meet up with her boyfriend, Vance. When he doesn't show she wonders what has happened to him? Imagine how she feels when she learns that his wife is in the hospital! Lindsey leaves Seattle and heads up to Cameron Bay early. Staying at Cameron's Roost we are introduced to the interesting character of Belinda, the owner. Her sister, Alexa, owns the bakery in town along with her husband Peter. Lindsey and Alexa, a strong Christian, develop a great friendship as the story develops.
Lindsey is in town to interview Ben Fletcher, the owner of Cedar Run Kennels and breeder of the Dingo (Makah) dogs who have a honey-gold coat and a curled tail. Why is Ben so hostile towards her especially when her friend Remi lives there and arranged the contact? Many of the locals sense that Ben is under a lot of pressure. What is going on? Is Remi's life in danger due to his conversion from Islam to Christianity?
Other interesting characters in this story are:
Jack, a painter, who owns a remote cabin
Fraser, the local bookstore owner
Quincy, an older man who raises cashmere goats and makes his interest in Lindsey quite plain. It is also no secret that he wants to purchase a section of Ben's land. Why?
Shula, a herbalist who seems to have a "potion" for every malady. She is also involved in the FRO (Family Relief Outreach) which has Hamas connections.
Kamal, a Muslim friend of Shula's in Seattle
Colin, based in Seattle, but a good friend of Ben's so comes up most weekends to try and help Ben and the situation that is evolving. Is he the paragon that he first appears to be?
When Lindsey finds the Fletcher's dog, Spot, nearly dead beside the shoreline, she does what is only natural and returns him to the home. What about the other drugged dogs found in the kennels? The mystery deepens as she one day finds Ben and Natalie's young son, walking home quite a ways from home. How did he get there? When Ginni, their daughter who has been very hostile towards Lindsey, goes missing, can she find her in time? Who is doing all this to the family and why?
In the meantime what is Vance up to back on the east coast? When Lindsey learns that he now owns twenty percent of the magazine shares what will she do? Will she fly back to try and sort things out or does God have a different plan for her life?
Having experienced several failed relationships in her past, Lindsey is content to be single but is someone going to come along to change that? Can she forgive Vance and move on or will she let her hurt eat at her?
This is a story very much based on Christian principles. It is not fast paced but neither does it drag. We get to see the main characters really develop and the Christian ones coming together, praying, worshiping and studying the scriptures together. The suspense part of the story is great, leading you on by providing many suspects. This book is the second one in the series. It is a stand alone BUT the ending is kind of abrupt leaving it very open for the next one to continue to developing the lives of certain of the characters.
I liked the way that she not only told about their growing older in Christ Jesus (the characters in this book
but also shared scriptures, and how to live the Christian life as a Christian. I really liked it and there was not
any bad language in it whatever it was a very sweet and lovely book for the most part other than a few characters in the book that had to learn how to forgive, and help courage and help the other Christians in this story as well as for them selves, see? I recommend this book for those who love books as I have just described in the above paragraph.
I received this book free from Gloria and in exchange I am now doing the review for her and for any future readers/consumers! Great work,Gloria! Thanks for letting me do this for you! By Angela
Here is a book that grows. It weaves itself around you and pulls you in. I found myself rereading portions...not to try and understand a difficult portion, but to savor the words. To experience again an emotion or truth. Are you standing on the fence, trying to decide wether to read this book? Go for it. You will be left a little richer for the experience.
