"One word comes to mind when I think of Denise Hughes: Biblical. And the one word I'd use to describe this book? Timeless. It's not trendy. Denise doesn't color outside the lines in order to be cool. She loves God's Word, knows God's Word, and articulates God's ways in a timeless, beautiful fashion. If you long to know God on a deep and profound level, Denise would tell you to spend time in His Word. Absolutely true. But I'd also say, take your time working through the pages of this book. Denise serves as a wise, godly mentor. She tackles tough questions and offers fresh insight, all at the same time. This book is a gift to God's people."
—Susie Larson, national speaker, talk radio host, author of Your Powerful Prayers

"The absolute best way to hear God's voice is through His Word, both the words we read in the Bible and by taking the time—like the scribes of old—to write the Word ourselves. In ancient times, the scribes knew the Word intimately because they both studied it and wrote it out. Reading Denise J. Hughes's marvelous new book, Deeper Waters, makes me feel as if I'm sitting at the feet of a scribe whose gentle manner and profound wisdom stirs a fresh hunger in me to study God's Word. Denise employs a nonthreatening, easy-to-understand method of study. Her gentle encouragement and practical wisdom are framed by deeply moving and transparent stories of her own life, hurts, doubts, and seasons of brokenness every woman can relate to. Nothing will transform your life more than hearing the voice of God. Let Denise take you by the hand and guide you on your journey and get ready to have your life transformed."
—Kate Battistelli, author of Growing Great Kids and the mother of GRAMMY award-winning artist Francesca Battistelli
"I can't think of people I know whose lives seem to be characterized by deeper waters without thinking of Denise Hughes. A woman who has walked through difficulty as well as triumph, she has done the hard work of digging deep to find the truth of God in all of it. She is soft-spoken but strong, gentle, and wise, and I trust her heart and her ability not only to invite you into the life-changing truth of God's Word, but to help uncover it as well. A gem of a writer, teacher, and friend, I cannot say enough good things about Denise and the works of her hands."
—Logan Wolfram, author of Curious Faith and the CEO of the Allume Conference
"As a Bible teacher and pastor's wife, I am thankful for writers like Denise who faithfully and consistently point us to the truth of Scripture. As a friend, I'm thankful for women like Denise who honestly and graciously point me to Jesus. Deeper Waters is a gift to all of us who long for more of Christ and His Word. Denise has opened the Word and invited us to join her on the journey to abide fully and deeply in Christ. And we can be sure we have a thoughtful guide who has known the faithfulness and generosity of the One about whom she writes."

I learned so much from Denise's beautifully written book! I love how she took a rather complex subject and simplified it, shed light on it, made it approachable, and brought home the message of how integral the bible is to all of us. Denise shares how the biblical truths lead us to a closer, more intimate relationship with the Lord, a knowing, a spiritual awakening, that arises from the depths of the Bible.
I loved this book! A few of my favorite quotes from Deeper Waters by Denise Hughes are:
"Our souls long for something beyond what we can see and touch and hear and know. Apart from God, we're in a spiritual exile of our own, and our lives are a journey toward our true home. We're eternal souls living in mortal bodies, and our physical world sometimes blinds us-- and deafens us -- from what is true versus what is untrue. "
"The Holy Spirit enables every believer, wherever we are, to understand the uncompromised truth and uncontested beauty of Scripture. When we hear God's voice through the pages of His Word, we find our true home in Him, and the brokenness we experience in the deep waters of life is redeemed for a purpose greater than we can imagine."
"When we're immersed in the grace and truth of God's Word, we find the path that leads us home."
I feel this book is vital for those who are new or seasoned in their faith, or for those wondering what the mystery is behind reading the bible and the importance of it. Denise has such a beautiful way of expressing the role the Lord's truths and promises play as they speak to our souls and everyday lives.
Deeper Waters breaks down the ways Denise has discovered that helped her better understand, digest, implement, and live out the stories and truths within the bible. She describes how we gain a deeper insight into the character of God. I love how she summarizes her tips, techniques, and various reading plans that make reading the bible doable and something you are excited about and devoted to. I have struggled with my bible reading and Deeper Waters has really inspired me to look at the bible and all that's within it in a whole new way. For me, she demystified how to submerge myself in the Bible and really understand what I am reading, and most importantly how it will transform my life and relationship with the Lord
Denise is such a sweet, wise, humble, faith-filled, inspirational, tender, caring, and motivating writer. Her words are lyrical and the book flows seamlessly. I think you will love this book as much as I do and be awakened to a whole new way of reading and immersing yourself into the amazing truths within the pages of the bible. I know I will be applying the techniques Denise shares to delve further in the Bible and draw nearer to the Lord. Thank you, Denise Hughes, for writing a much needed and beautiful book about one of the most treasured and vital books ever written, the Bible.
People who have experienced loss, hurt, or deep disappointment would benefit from this book. Denise doesn’t sugarcoat the hard, but she also didn’t allow the hard to leave her in a barren wasteland. The beautiful promise of Scripture meeting her in these desert places is a timely reminder of the timeless nature of God’s Word and its impact to change us.
The book also includes helpful tips on how to study Scripture in order to make a meaningful and transformative impression in one’s life. I highly recommend it.
