About the Author
Chautona Havig is a prolific writer of fiction, including the popular Past Forward series and Ready or Not, among many other novels. When not writing, she enjoys paper crafting, sewing, and, of course, reading. She lives in a small, remote town in California’s Mojave Desert with her husband and seven of her nine children.

The current tenants, a girl and her grandfather, welcome him and want to know more of the history of this wonderful vineyard. Readers learn his personal history and why he agreed to serve without pay. But he also draws us into the past as he tells the story of his ancestors and this vineyard to the girl and her wise grandfather.
As usual for Chautona both stories have strong characters with textured personalities who grow in depth as they learn how to depend on a strength beyond their own. I learned some new things about California's history much to my delight. I found myself eager for the next time Avelino shared his family's past around the table. There are some recipes for the food the ate I'd like too.
Mystery and danger and honor are part of this story as well. I found some of my assumptions and conceptions challenged- why do I believe or think this, is it true; is it valid.
I hope you enjoy this book and that your greatest disappointment like mine is that the story is over. (But it is a triology so. while this phase of the story is over.. there will be more!)
