I have read several books on socialism and how it can creep into a country and take it over. Venezuela used to be the 4th richest country in the world, until socialism crept in and eventually took it over. Now it is a total disaster. This book helped to crystalize some thoughts and concerns I already had. It gave me insights on what needs to be done. All Americans that love this country should read this book before we end up meeting the same fate as Venezuela.

It is truly amazing how such a large portion of the American people have been sold on the idea that socialism is superior to capitalism. They believe socialism will make our economy stronger and fairer to the greatest number of people. It's not as if this idea had been tried before with great success. On the contrary, socialism has failed every time it has been tried. Newt Gingrich plays the role of a prosecutor in tearing down the arguments for this failed system.

Gingrich first instructs the reader about the traditional values that have made the United States the envy of the world. He attributes an understanding of our true history and an appreciation of the sacrifices made by generations before that gives us the best country ever devised by man. Added to our history, as designed by our Founders, are principles of stability and strength resulting in two centuries of success.

Gingrich then points to the fact that Big Government Socialists reject these bedrock principles in favor of a utopia that can never become real because it goes against human nature. He goes on to warn how our freedoms are being eroded by big government legislators, bureaucrats, and a media that serves as a political ally to these entities. Included in this destruction is the education industry, Hollywood and even big business. Big Government Socialism corrupts everything it touches because it takes money from one group and gives to another in order to stay in power.

Big Government Socialists pretend tolerance, but they are actually intolerant of anyone who does not adhere to their ideology. The Founding Fathers believed in honesty, morality, and faith. The Socialists have redefined these values to where deviancy is accepted as moral. Their idea is to place all authority in the government and take away any belief in a higher power.

Socialists reject the right to private property, freedom of speech and all other freedoms listed in the Bill of Rights. They believe that the Constitution is outdated. They want to replace it with a constitution that is a Living Document that can be easily changed or amended. By understanding the goals of the Big Government Socialists, Americans will wake up to the danger they present to our freedom and our way of life. We must start now and fight to restore America to the Shining City on a Hill that has traditionally been our image around the world.
