This book is about "understanding" -- something we all need

when referring to "understanding" people often think the reference is to pity, allowance or other laudable traits. In this case the term refers to the proper way in which to engage someone with differing views. First, one must understand their basic philosophy, objectives as well as means of achieving their goals. As Dr. Gorka points out, the bedrock beliefs espoused by Islam are such that any attempt to find a solution without UNDERSTANDING Islam is bound to fail. The second point is that trying to effect change in Islam using Western Values is and has proven to be futile. While there may be a question of "if" or "how" to get involved, any intervention must be based on effecting change by recognizing reality. Dr. Gorka points out that Islamic Jihad can be addressed in a manner similar to old school time proven theories employed with respect to the cold war. The reader is free to agree or disagree, but I believe that this work answers many of the questions that have eluded many prior administrations.

What you will learn from this book is that you can’t negotiate with barbarians who believe that Jihad against non-believers for their annihilation is a holy goal. The Jihad leaders are very adept at using the Internet and social media to spread their hateful ideology. They are not the “JV” team. They are experts at what they do. In the final chapter Gorka tells us we can and must do to defeat Islamic terrorists and their organizations. One of the first steps is to educate yourself, because the MSM is not reporting what they should.

After the horrible events of 9-11-2001 i spent the next two years reading as much as possible on Islam and specially on the radical Islamists movement and why they seek our destruction. I don't expect others to put in the time that I did. Yet everyone must have a clear foundation in knowing our enemy. Remember they declared war on the West and specfically the USA before 9-11-2001. Dr. Gorka's book is a excellent and relatively brief summary of how the modern Islamist movement began and developed into what it is today and more importantly why specifically they hate the West and the USA in particular. Several take aways from his book are this that the radical Islamists movement is not new, starting at least before WWI. The movement has a clear religious foundation in their strict interpretation of Islam, the Qu'ran, the Hadith, etc. Both our Republican and Democratic leaders for whatever reason have grossly down played the extent of this threat to Western Civilization. And finally, we can defeat this movement, just as we defeated Soviet communism, but it will take time and patience. Our enemy has both as well as perseverance. They know well how to adapt. Also suggest reading one or more translations of Sun Tzu's the Art of War.

Separation of Church and State simply means the US Govt will not establish a state religion. THAT IS ALL!. If a criminal goes into a Christian Church or a Jewish House of worship or a Mosque, the authorities can still pursue the person. An American is an idea. It is not from where you came from, not about your religion, not about the color of your skin. It is about you as an individual, about your liberty, about the fact that you elect people to govern. The government works for you! Read it to know exactly how you can stay free.

I can't add much that has not already been said by the hundreds of reviews. I will say that this is a book of supreme importance. Gorka is now a member of the government and we should read his book to see what he thinks. He presents his points clearly and plainly without a lot of literary flourish.
I will also say that I have been looking into Islam and Jihad for a decade with focus and deliberation but I still learned a good deal about Islam that I had not known prior to reading Gorka's book.
