Patrick knows she's still feeling loss. He understands her, tries to ground her and smooth a way between her and her family. He's not without secrets from his past. An unknown person brings forward those secrets to destroy his reputation and life.
And don't get me started on Marlow's mom, after being absent in her life, needling her way into their lives only to cause havoc and disruptions.
She gets her due. How it went down was priceless.
No matter what happens in life, Marlow realizes that the love and forgiveness from family is the best gift she could ever have. It took me a while to write this review. There was a myriad of emotions going through me. What a rollercoaster ride this story is. Grahame Claire has written a story that kept me wanting more. Defend Me is a standalone, but characters from The Free Me series and Paths to Love are intermingled within both series.
Thank you for giving me an ARC , this is my honest review of this amazing story. I recommend it.
From the first page, I knew that Marlow’s journey was not going to be an easy one. There were so many twists and turns that I didn’t see coming. And oh how I loved Patrick beyond words. Patrick was the only one who could calm down Marlow and never gave up.
Patrick & Marlow had amazing chemistry and I loved their back and forth banter. Marlow was stubborn and was scared to let anyone into her and her son Blake’s lives. Patrick was not going to give up his new family for anyone. Patrick & Marlow were imperfectly perfect for each other.
I voluntarily reviewed this book.
I couldn't put this book down. There was the right amount of romance, wit, sass and suspense to keep me up long and late. Plus, hello, the Dixons. Everything I love about losing myself in a book is in Defend Me.
I adore the Dixon family, and even with all the chaos they supported one another. But most of all Marlow, she redeemed herself by admitting her wrongs and trying to fix them. I liked that she let down her guards, and let her family in.
First off, I have to say that the high point in this story, aside from the excellent writing, is Patrick. He is such a swoony guy - has a huge heart, is ever patient, and just wants Marlow's heart. Now Marlow on the other hand...I don't know that I liked her. I understood her a bit better by the end, and I can safely say she grew some over the course of the story, but I will say I never ended up liking her or thinking she was worthy of the sweetheart that is Patrick. That being said, the story is entertaining, steamy, and sweet and Patrick is perfect!
