From the Author
is perhaps my most "important" book to date. It deals with the abuse of Native Americans on reservations and how these offenses are so often under-investigated or ignored by the authorities, resulting in sex crimes that far exceed U.S. national rates. It is a crime and pity that this stuff is going on, and the more of us that write about it and call it out, the better.
Turquoise is a Native American girl (Navajo) in her mid-teens who is the victim of sexual abuse at the hands of a family member. That family member is murdered and Turquoise is put on trial for the murder. She is defended by Thaddeus Murfee, who is himself in trouble with the court and fighting for his own professional survival.
A parallel story begins, involving wife of the District Attorney. She has been charged with murdering him, and Thaddeus defends her, too.
The two cases are related and begin to merge into one from the reader's standpoint.
The trials are fascinating and very lifelike. Readers are raving about the book, including its surprise ending.
About the Author
John Ellsworth was a practicing attorney who defended white collar crimes and criminal investigations and prosecutions by the federal government. Tax crimes were a specialty and John appeared in court on these cases and in the audit pre-indictment stages nationwide. For many years John defended criminal cases of the usual flavor too, from shoplifting to first degree murder. He has been lead counsel on death penalty cases and has never lost a client to the execution chamber. Today John believes in self-publication. "I wrote a script for a Hollywood movie and it bounced around the studios for three years while other people talked and discussed and opined. After three years there was still no movie, so I decided to start writing nothing but novels and to self-publish so there would be no middlemen between my writing and my readers." The first book, a legal thriller titled The Defendants was first up to the plate. Now John has published five more legal thrillers:
1. The Defendants
2. Beyond a Reasonable Death
3. Attorney at Large
4. Chase, the Bad Baby
5. Defending Turquoise
6. The Mental Case
John writes for your enjoyment. "More than anything, I love to read a review of one of my books where someone has had a good experience because of something I created out of thin air. I love my readers and want them to love me back--through my books, of course." Writing-reading is a two-way street, especially with readers of legal thrillers, who happen to be people who are very bright, well-read, and won't let you get away with inaccuracies. So you better be up on your game and get it right the first time around.
Today John lives in Arizona with his wife and dogs and guinea pigs.
Thanks for reading!
